The guesthouse is so close to the main street, but not noisy. It's very relaxed and tranquil. I absolutely loved the great attention to detail, like breakfast that's brought right to your door. We LOVED

We arrived to find the name had changed and new owners which was not a problem. A nice welcome and a large comfortable room and superb bathroom. The property is being updated so a few final touches to be sorted like somewhere to hang towels and your clothes as no wardrobe. No doubt an information sheet on things like check... More

New owners, Yves and Martine, have re-furbished this traditional Cape Dutch guest house and we felt very comfortable here. De Alchemist is on a corner very close to the centre of Franschhoek. It is within very easy reach of shops, restaurants, the Huguenot Museum and the wine tour tram and bus. On our arrival the capable Shaneill quickly directed us... More

we recommend very warmly this guesthouse which has been taken over for only a few months by a very welcoming and friendly Belgian couple. They have already transformed this XIXth century stylish house in a superbly equipped and nicely decorated place. Another few months and we bet it will be one of the top accommodations in the heart of Franschhoek.

We were a bit confused on arrival in Franschoek as the guesthouse had a name change & we were not made aware of this. The room was very comfortable. A suggestion would be to install some lighting around the mirror as it would assist with the application of make up especially if one has aging eyes!! The breakfast was beautifully... More

Recently taken over and the genuine, dard-working owners are applying their energy to restore the reputation of what was a bit run-down under a previous name by a different owner. Good swimming pool, pleasant rooms and could come together very well. Whether it does or not, Franschoek is a gem of a town with a good number of the best... More

For us this place was perfect for two nights in Franschhoek! Excellent service, friendly owners, perfect location, beautiful rooms. Breakfast was good, not the best, but good. The place is under renovation, but will soon be finished, however this did not disturb us at all. When the place is fully renovated it will be stunning.

Very clean and comfortable, and excellent location in the village. Breakfast was also excellent with good variety of fresh food. Hosts are also very attentive. I would recommend it without hesitation.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The story of 'De Alchemist'. Cafe in Ghent, Belgium - Guesthouse in Franschhoek, South Africa During the Spring of 2013, Yves & Martine decided to start a new adventure by opening a nice little cafe in the old medieval town of Ghent, Belgium. They called it 'De Alchemist'. Because the place was so popular, Adrian and Emma - their 2 youngest children - also started working at the bar and it became a beautiful family business. On the wave of happiness and adventure, Yves and Martine took things one step further. During a short holiday in South Africa, they decided to buy a let down bed & breakfast and started another big adventure. Thanks to the ideas of Martine and the hands of Yves, the guesthouse turned into a beautiful oasis of peace and quiet in the beautiful wine valley of Franschhoek.
