We received a "gift in a box" and decided to use it at Rickety Bridge in Franscchoek, but since they were fully booked for the weekend we had available, we were booked into their sister farm, Bass Provence. What a delightful experience it was. The gift included an exclusive dinner at Rickety Bridge with wine pairings when the restaurant is... More

A bit of a haphazard arrangement with no in situ staff to greet you, help you with your luggage, etc. as a result, you feel as though this is a bit of a 'boarding house' establishment (though i confess i have never stayed in a boarding house). Everyone goes home at around 4pm which effectively leaves you, the guests, as... More

We were a group of friends staying the night before a wedding and had a whole wing allocated to us for the night. The rooms are beautiful as are the old buildings. Staff are very helpful and breakfast was good although we did have to wait for a while before it arrived after placing our order. I would definitely return.

My partner and I had a lovely 2 night stay here. We loved the newly thatched smell of the Jacobs suite and the room is large with a comfy bed and a wonderful bath and shower. As mentioned in reviews below we did find it odd that when we turned up there was noone to greet us and we had... More

Unfortunately the most disappointing stay we had in South Africa during our 4 weeks trip. We can't say what was the worst: 1. bugs in rooms (I am aware that this is a rural area but the amount of bugs is just not acceptable), one night we were sitting in the common room and there were bugs falling from the... Our apologies about the "bugs" while visiting us.Although we have a preventative spray program, there was a widespread outbreak of crickets and beetles in the Cape Peninsula at the time of your visit, due to weather conditions out of our control. I apologise unconditionally for the state of the spare blanket in the cupboard in your room. As these are very... More

We stayed over in the Elizabeth suite. We enjoyed every moment from the friendly reception to the owl on the roof. Breakfast was such a treat served with a smile. We will be back if coming this way again, one to remember!

Upon arrival in the afternoon the reception was closed (locked). Had to call a number on the locked door for assistance. What a welcome! Warm water tap in the basin was not working. Had to use hot water from the kettle to fill the basin. Do not be sieved by photos. It can be misleading. The correct deposit I paid... More

Our reception is open until 6pm every day and I had 2 staff on duty on the 3rd until 5.30 and 6pm respectively. It is possible that the front door was closed, as they do this for security when they go out to the laundry or when checking in guests. The Elizabeth Suite is situated upstairs and on the side... We have booked the whole venue for our wedding guests to stay and all of them have nothing but praise for Basse-Provence. The rooms are large and luxurious, with huge bathrooms. The staff was extremely helpful and catered to all our guests need, even the unexpected. The scenery is incredible and the venue is very quiet, with a cosy atmosphere... More

We recently stayed at Basse Provence with some friends. We got a really nice room overlooking the swimming pool, the room was an upstairs unit and from the outset looked to be an excellent place to stay. But looks as they say, can be deceiving. All the doors in the room are really low, even the door to the on... More

We appreciate you taking the time to post your comments on Trip advisor. We are sad to hear that our Elizabeth Suite was not to your liking. Some of the endearing characteristics of Cape Dutch buildings over 200 years old are their lower than normal doors and yellowwood ceiling beams. While these architectural features add to the character of the... More

A short one night visit to Franschhoek, but an excellent choice to rest our heads! Our room 'Gideon' was very comfortable with a lovely en-suite. Breakfast was first class and all the staff were charming. After leaving we tasted wines at Rickety Bridge - and bought! Stunning scenery all around!
