I have stayed there a few times, and it wouldn't be my first choice. The rooms are not sufficiently ventilated for the hot weather experienced in Franschhoek, and I only saw one toilet in the Gent’s. My main gripe was that the showers are extremely compact and you end up having a disgusting, see-through shower curtain unavoidably stuck to you... More

All the accommodation in Franschhoek is very expensive and it does not have a traditional back packers. We loved the lodge which was a hostel for a boarding school at the turn of the last century. They do have private rooms, but only a few. We booked late and were put in a 4 bed dorm on our own and... More

Franschhoek SPCA and The Humane Education Trust recently held a conference/education course for educationalists at 'The Travellers Lodge' in Franschhoek. Some of our delegates were local but some traveled quite long distances and required good, yet affordable, clean, safe, central to all amenities and of course comfortable accommodation and this we most certainly found with Errol and his team at... If you need a clean bed, warm showers and very friendly and helpful staff - this is the place to stay at an affordable rate. The old school hostel is as clean as a whistle and it is possible to book en suite rooms but because we were late in booking, we had a four bed room to ourselves with... More

We stayed in double en-suite for about £34 per night (room only). This place is basic yes but it meant more money to splash out on the fancy restaurants! The room was clean and light, it had free wifi, a wardrobe, no tv but there is one in the communal lounge. There is a sliding door to the spacious airy... More

The Travellers Lodge is a great little place when staying on a budget. The staff are very friendly, helpful and assist with any queries you may have on the spot. The accommodation had on suite facilities and a nice kitchen that was shared between our little wing. Very close to the town centre too!

The rooms we stayed in were very basic, and pillows etc were a bit 'old', but clean. Shared bathroom facilities were also very clean and tidy. Location is excellent, you can easily walk to town. Perfect if you're out all day and just need a shower and a bed. If you want luxury you should go somewhere else (but expect... More

This place is a large converted public building or convent.  The rooms are basic but were fine for one night.  We were the only tourists staying there I think when we were there so it felt a bit weird.  There were no sockets in the room to charge things which we didn't realise until it was too late. Presumably they... More

Stayed here with a group of 20 friends on a Saturday night for the Bastille Day Wine Festival (we are in our mid 20s). Positives: * Management had no issues with us coming and going at all hours, making a bit of noise in the passages etc. We were actually well behaved and not too rowdy, so I appreciate how... More

We stayed here during the Franschhoek Literary Festival in May 2013 and it was excellent - conveniently close to all the festival venues, walking distance from restaurants and shops. Our en-suite room was large and comfortable, and we had free wi-fi and the use of a fully equipped kitchen. Friendly, helpful staff.
