Hiking the Drakensburg has been a fantastic experience. And coming back to the thatched huts at the end of the day is like an oasis. These units are clean, spacious, well maintained, and enjoyable. Quite remarkable considering where they are situated. located high in the Drakensburg mountain range each unit has a breathtaking view of the Mountains. Do not miss!!... More

We had a lovely three nights here. Beautiful location with many walks from your doorstep - we did policeman's helmet and the gorge walk - both recommended but our favourite definitely the gorge. Everything you need for self catering but bring your supplies. Lovely to sit outside after a hike and enjoy the view BUT beware of the baboons -... More

Stayed in Dec 2013, Thendele camp is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I've ever seen. The views of the Amphitheatre are incredible. It rained on an off on the first night which only made the setting all the more stunning. The huts themselves are spacious, nicely appointed and slept 4 people comfortably. Full kitchen facitilities, lounge room and... More

Stayed 2 nights at Thendele Camp. From our 'upper' lodge we had a fantastic view on the Amphitheatre! During breakfast on the veranda we were visited by lots of curious birds. And during the night the whole milkyway was clearly visible including Scorpio.

We stayed in one of the lowed camp chalets - #3 - for just two nights. We arrived late afternoon to find the mountains shrouded in cloud, but awoke to crystal clear skies and that superlative view. We'd had fairly low expectations of the accommodation, expecting something similar to basic huts in the Kruger. We were pleasantly surprised to find... More

We stayed at the lodge which slept six very comfortably and the view was amazing. Cannot fault nature at its best. Lodge was showing signs of tiredness and hopefully authority will take it in hand. Please take enough provisions as shop is very sparse

We recently stayed for 5 nights in Thendele Lodge as the finale to a three week trip in SA. As everyone knows, the setting is just the most beautiful place - so serene and majestic - but the Lodge itself was a real disappointment. Billed as a luxury lodge, sadly, that is a misnomer. For luxury, I don't expect to... More

We are recently back from a South African trip that included five nights at Thendele, staying in the Lodge, a private three bedroom property at the base of the camp, and sold as the camp's luxury option. You can't buy the view. The Royal Natal National Park is a stupendously beautiful place - I've been going since I was a... More

Stayed for just 1 night. Spacious, but very basic hut. Camp does not have restaurant, but just a small shop to buy some food to prepare yourself (shop closes at 16.30h - before we returned from our hike, unfortunately - it requires quite a drive to the nearest restaurant). Location in Royal Natal is great though, with lots of hiking... More

Nice and clean. The location is just right but we found the chalet too much for only 2 of us. The website reservation showed Chalet has capacity for 2 but we found that there're two bedrooms in the chalet. We found it interesting that the S African need to have a TV when spending time in the wilderness. We don't... More
