We have been coming to the Mainstay for many years, and it just gets better and better! Rooms are in the main house, originally a "gentlemen's gambling house" built in the late 1800's, or in the cottage next door. Both feature beautiful museum quality Victorian furnishings and antiques, lovely grounds and porches on which to sit. Beds are very comfortable,... More

I've been coming to the Mainstay Inn for years and it has never disappointed. Under new owners, the lovely Esther and Pete, along with longtime innkeeper, Diane Clark, it's still the ultimate B&B in this beautiful town. Our latest visit was for a friend's birthday--and there were a lot of us--with 18 people occupying the apartment and the cottage. Esther,... More

We spent two nights at the Mainstay with four other couples. We occupied four of the five rooms in the cottage. The rooms were lovely, good quality bedding, quiet air conditioning and dehumidifier (a nice touch). The breakfast is a lovely buffet - with fresh fruit, yogurt, breads, bagels and English muffins in addition to a hot dish each day.... More

Excellent facility. A/c for my room broke but was fixed within hours. Free strollers for beach saves carrying available chairs and towels. Good variety of breakfasts. Owners Esther and Pete are on-site. House was built in 1872 but is well maintained. Free chocolate chip cookies, pretzels, tea and coffee (in cottage) are available all day and evening. Location to beach... More

Expensive but well worth it. Friendly staff, excellent accommodations, near the center of activities. The property is well kept and clean, a pleasant stay. The afternoon tea is a perfect break from walking around town. Breakfast a little too gourmet and not enough choices of cereals but that is a minimal inconvenience.

An exceptional small Inn located in an exceptional small town by the sea. The Mainstay is era perfect in fabulous detail, exceptionally well maintained, exceptionally clean and comfortable, run by exceptional staff. Easily lives up to Select Registry standards. Perhaps even raises the bar.

Spent several days here for my birthday. The staff is amazing and per my husbands request had roses and champagne in our room upon our arrival. The decor is gorgeous. We enjoyed quiet evenings on the front porch swinging on fabulous, comfortable swings with oversized cushions. The breakfast was different and delicious each day. The french toast brought back childhood... More

The Mainstay Inn has been on our "must-visit" list for over a year and we finally booked a night for Dec. 30th to start our NYE celebration early. Diane, the manager for 27 years, greeted us warmly and was most accommodating. Our room, the Grant, was impeccable, spacious and comfortable. We loved the sitting room and extra-large bathroom! In the most charming seaside town full of beautiful Victorian era properties, stands the breathtaking Mainstay Inn. Located on a beautiful tree-lined gas lamp illuminated street, this building is impeccably maintained. The staff are pleasant and most helpful in dealing with requests or with regard to chatting about the property's history as well as the surrounding area. The morning breakfast selection... More
