My husband and I had been traveling to Cape May for many years and always passed this beautiful building. However at the time we were traveling with our small son and this is not a place for young children. Needless to say, when he was grown and out on his own, we could not wait to experience this inn and... More

What a wonderful inn...the hostess was very friendly, our room was beautifully appointed with antiques but had all the modern conveniences, the beds were so comfortable that we didn't want to get up! Breakfast and afternoon tea are served on the wrap around veranda....both offer a variety of homemade baked goods, fruits, cheeses, eggs, cold cuts, teas and coffee. Sipping... More

My husband and I love Cape May and have always walked past The Mainstay Inn and hoped some day to stay there. This June our wish came true, and our time at the inn made this trip our best vacation in 20 years. The owners, Esther and Peter, were wonderful - very engaging and fun to talk with, as well... More

We stayed at the Mainstay Inn for a long summer weekend in late June. The room was lovely and well-appointed. The owners (Pete and Ester) were onsite that weekend and couldn't have been lovelier. Karen and Tracey (staff) were able to provide invaluable tips on where to eat. The veranda on the property was the star however, and the envy... More

This was our third stay at the Mainstay out of seven times in Cape May. The owners have changed, but the innkeepers remain and I didn't notice any difference. The building and property remain lovely and clean. It is a quick walk to the beach and the inn provides chairs and towels. You can use these even if you check... More

Previous owners were absentee owners. New owners are on-site and chat with guests daily as they learn the B&B business. Previous innkeeper (Diane) was kept and that was a wise move. Slight changes being made by new owners such as sofa replacements in some rooms, new fine china cups for tea, etc. Most great things about this inn remain. Best... More

For my 50th birthday my husband took me to the Mainstay Inn. Our room was elegant. Our hostess provided champagne and roses upon my husbands request (extra fee). The wide deck with comfortable seating provided shelter from the evening rain. Our breakfast was delicious with many choices. There were always plenty of homemade goodies in the parlor to enjoy. We... More

I found the Mainstay Inn on Trip Advisor and am so glad that I did. It is just a beautiful Inn with lots of upscale amenities (from the toiletries and robes to the beach chairs and round the clock cookies). The Inn itself has a colorful history as an upscale men's "club" in the Victorian Era and is decorated in... More

Driving up to this imposing, stately mansion pulled me back in time to the Victorian Era. We were greeted with a welcoming smile and entered. Diane is showing us around giving us directions and all I'm doing is looking up at the height of the ceilings, decor and imagining myself in that time. Hey, where's my hoop skirt?? We were... More

From the moment we walked through the front door, I was giddy with excitement. The inside made me feel like I was stepping into a novel, the type of novels that I read in high school that filled my head with fantasies of becoming a governess so I could relocate to Europe to work for a wealthy brooding widower who...
