...and could not have chosen a more perfect spot! The Chalfonte is like stepping back in time and was more than we could have asked for! A last minute trip found limited choices for us, so we booked this Grand Old Dame as it was our only choice. Who knew that this fabulous hotel would be such a charm. The... More

Once you step inside this nearly 140 year old hotel/restaurant, you'll immediately realize that, if you've come just for dinner, perhaps you should attempt to book a room and stay the night as well. Which, I would imagine might be fairly difficult during peak summer months - but worth inquiring about. The Magnolia Room dining experience has to be experienced... More

What a wonderful experience this turned out to be. When you live close to the highway it is a real treat to sleep with the windows open on a quiet street!! The horse drawn carriages went by several times. The staff is lovely and the am buffet was great. Loved the old style of the hotel. It was neat and... More

I have spent many years traveling to South Jersey and exploring all of the beach towns. Cape May is by far my absolute favorite (any time of the year!) My favorite place to stay is the Chalfonte Hotel. The hotel offers a variety of accommodations for varying budgets. I personally prefer the Southern Quarters; it is the cottage located next... More

A little challenging finding parking on a Summer weekend, and no elevator, but rooms were decent sized. Our bathroom was small and a little difficult to maneuver in. Floors everywhere are slanted, giving an "am I still drunk?" feeling! We had a corner room with a balcony, which was nice, but people were standing outside our window talking at 8... More

My family and I have been coming to Cape May most of our lives. Second only to my grandmother's house, the Chalfonte embodies, to me, what a true Cape May vacation should be. We usually choose a room with a shared bath down the hall, which works perfectly for us. Showers are always in the outdoor shower (when was the... More

My husband and I have returned to The Chalfonte for the last few years on our anniversary. The Chalfonte is definately not for everyone. We always request Southern Quarters. It's the house adjacent to the Main Inn. We like the upstairs room; it has a private porch. You can sit outside and people watch while listening to the horses walk... More

My wife and I had a wonderful first stay at the Chalfonte, and look forward to returning again soon. The incredible building is a time capsule, and the staff were uniformly charming, helpful, and welcoming. The Sunday buffet dinner was delicious, and our ocean-side room with queen bed and private bath (sink in bedroom) was uncluttered, beautiful, and very clean.... More

I very hesitantly stayed here after my man insisted that this was his favorite place in Cape May. The place is beautiful on the outside. Inside is obviously quite dated. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The rooms were a nice size. The bathrooms were only a toilet and a shower. The vanity was inside the room itself to... More

I brought my teenagers to the Chalfonte, and did they get creeped out. They swore it was an old mental institution that was turned into a B&B. We did stay the weekend, but they griped about it. You just have to realize everything in Cape May is old and dated, but if you can just remember that because it's not... More
