I've been going to the Chalfonte for over 25 years. So charming, so easy and so comfortable, I was concerned after the new owners took over that things would change. It seems a seamless transition has occurred. Friendly staff, friendly atmosphere and fabulous food continue as always as well as the King Edward Bar which makes the Chalfonte seem a... More

I have been coming to The Chalfonte for at least ten years. I love the fact that it takes me back to a simpler time, where just being there reading on the front porch is the best type of relaxing entertainment. I love it that there are not phones or TVs in the room, I can rent a more expensive... More

Our family stayed at this hotel for a family reunion. It worked well for this in that we could all have the accommodations we required while being in the same building. The hotel is a short walk to the beach, the open-air mall, and other great places to visit. Family members often chose to walk places instead of move their... More

I have stayed at this hotel multiple times and have enjoyed it each time. Although the bathroom is oftentimes down the hall (for the less expensive accommodations), the bathrooms are clean. The cheapest rooms are very small, but they are cute and they have what you need. In addition, the cheapest rooms do not have air conditioning- this may sound... More

Recently visited Cape May, NJ for the first time and the Chalfonte was a great place to stay! It was in a convenient location and the staff had excellent guest service! We were impressed modern rooms and enjoyed the wrap around porch every morning and evening. The only complaint was the buffet breakfast, which I would not recommend. But would... More

We came to dinner in their dining room at the recommendation of someone we met on the mall and it was just awful. The fried chicken was soggy and overcooked. The bread was stale and the soup was like dishwater.I was told the previous chef had been replaced and the owners should consider replacing the new chef too.The insult on top of... This victorian hotel was everything I had dreamed of and I definitely plan to return to this particular hotel the next time we visit Cape May. And Cape May is and always has been my 'go-to for relaxation' place. Sitting out on the gorgeous porch and watching the horse drawn carriages, trollies, and other vacationers was the best part of... I only ate here, I didn't sleep here. In some ways, this place deserves a 3; in other ways, it deserves a 5. For the 5: the service was wonderful. The waiters/waitresses were all very nice; and they got the food out very quickly. Also, their salad was wonderful. For dessert, I Had a wonderful peach cobbler which was sweet... More

This historic hotel was so charming. Very well maintained OLD hotel with new amenities added. We stayed in the Presidential suite that accommodated my family of 5( king, queen and an added cot. When we weren't happy with the cot they went out of their way to find a better option. Loved having coffee on huge porch in the morning and... More

We enjoy staying in historic hotels, and do so when we can. The Chalfonte is indeed historic, but now unfortunately a grande dame well past her prime. No heat, and a/c which is streams of cold air directed directly into the room and mitigated only by leaving the window or door open. Housekeeping made the bed but did not replace... More
