Poor Richard's Inn is a great location with friendly service for an affordable price. The service was great. We forgot a cell phone charger and without asking, it was promptly mailed to us. I have forgotten things at hotels before and generally consider it lost. more

Cape May can be overwhelming for someone looking for rest and relaxation, but this was "just what the doctor ordered" ! Upon arrival, at 8:00pm we were greeted by Harriett, shown the layout of the house, and given our key. We stayed in room #2, which was the largest of the house. Room runs the whole right side of the... more

I decided to spend my 50+ birthday alone in Cape May. (a great town). I liked the look of Poor Richard's Inn on Jackson Street so I called Harriett and booked for 3 days. It was a 6 hour bus trip from NYC to get there but worth every minute. I felt like I knew Harriett from the start and... more

We have been coming to Cape May for Memorial Day since 2000 and have stayed at Poor Richard's since first discovering it in 2001. It is an ideal location and the rooms are charming. The breakfast is great and Harriet, the owner, really makes you feel at home and that your enjoyment is important to her. Overall a great experience. more

Well for a bed and breakfast, the bed was HORRIBLE and the breakfast was blah. That about says it. Great location, but for the price I expected better. more

Management response from

I am so sorry that the guest never told me she was not happy with the bed. I would have been quite happy to change her room or accommodate her in any way possible. It would also have been helpful, even now, to know what bed the guest was referring to. As far as breakfast is concerned, I advertise a...

From the time I first spoke with Harriett, the owner/innkeeper, I knew my wife and I were in for a really nice time. She spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, trying to find the perfect room for us and then. She didn't appear impatient, was friendly as can be and I later learned that I called during the... more

This was my third stay at Poor Richard's, and I was not disappointed. The accommodations are clean and comfortable, though not plush. The location is perfect-- a few doors from the beach and town shops and restaurants. The owner is lovely, laid back and welcoming and the daily breakfast is always varied and delicious. It will continue to be my... more

The great virtue of Poor Richard's Inn is that it isn't some fussy, cutesy-poo place with over-orchestrated "breakfast experiences." I loved relaxing on the upstairs porch with a glass of wine in the evenings, and the breakfast was just fine. The innkeeper is great - funny, and helpful without being unctuous. I've stayed there several times and look forward to... more
