I decided to spend my 50+ birthday alone in Cape May. (a great town). I liked the look of Poor Richard's Inn on Jackson Street so I called Harriett and booked for 3 days. It was a 6 hour bus trip from NYC to get there but worth every minute. I felt like I knew Harriett from the start and... more

We have been coming to Cape May for Memorial Day since 2000 and have stayed at Poor Richard's since first discovering it in 2001. It is an ideal location and the rooms are charming. The breakfast is great and Harriet, the owner, really makes you feel at home and that your enjoyment is important to her. Overall a great experience. more

Well for a bed and breakfast, the bed was HORRIBLE and the breakfast was blah. That about says it. Great location, but for the price I expected better. more

Management response from

I am so sorry that the guest never told me she was not happy with the bed. I would have been quite happy to change her room or accommodate her in any way possible. It would also have been helpful, even now, to know what bed the guest was referring to. As far as breakfast is concerned, I advertise a...

From the time I first spoke with Harriett, the owner/innkeeper, I knew my wife and I were in for a really nice time. She spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, trying to find the perfect room for us and then. She didn't appear impatient, was friendly as can be and I later learned that I called during the... more

This was my third stay at Poor Richard's, and I was not disappointed. The accommodations are clean and comfortable, though not plush. The location is perfect-- a few doors from the beach and town shops and restaurants. The owner is lovely, laid back and welcoming and the daily breakfast is always varied and delicious. It will continue to be my... more

Poor Richards Inn is an excellent destination if you love to travel. If you know good food, appreciate one on one hospitality, friendly service where the innkeeper knows your name. The building is a wonderful old victorian house just steps from the beach in the center of town. every room is as clean as can be. if your idea great... more

The great virtue of Poor Richard's Inn is that it isn't some fussy, cutesy-poo place with over-orchestrated "breakfast experiences." I loved relaxing on the upstairs porch with a glass of wine in the evenings, and the breakfast was just fine. The innkeeper is great - funny, and helpful without being unctuous. I've stayed there several times and look forward to... more

My wife and I stayed at Poor Richard's Inn in Cape May over St. Patrick's Day weekend. This was our first stay and we had the most enjoyable and relaxing time. Harriett, the owner, was gracious and welcoming; our room (Room 2) was spacious and charming, the European style breakfast was delicious and we appreciated the fact that we did... more

I have been staying at Poor Richard's Inn at least once a year for five years. It is the most unique Bed and Breakfast I have ever stayed in, featuring a combination of gracious Victorian antiques juxtaposed with modern art collages. The rooms range from spacious to tiny. Its floors occasionally creak from age but if you are looking for... more

My husband and I recently returned from a stay at Poor Richards Inn in Cape May. We stayed in room number one on the first floor. It was a beautiful space, well-kept and clean. The owner, and all those who took part in creating a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere, were friendly and accomodating, taking the time to make us feel... more
