This place along with its owners is extraordinary. I love bed and breakfasts but this is the most beautiful one I have ever seen. My son got married in New Jersey last weekend and this is where a group of our friends stayed and where we hosted the rehearsal dinner. Because of Cate and Tom's infinite kindness, everything went smoothly... More

My first experience at this B&B was solo, on a business trip, but I plan to come back and bring my wife! It is a romantically restored stone villa, very unusual for this part of the country, and the rooms are magnificent. The amount of space, overall and in the rooms, is jawdropping. Two of the larger rooms have private... More

Gorgeous building, the rooms feel very palatial. The website pictures do not do it justice! It was a nice place to relax and enjoy peace and quiet. There was a flat screen TV, gas fireplace, and soaking tub in the Lilac room was very large and luxurious. Would definitely go again!

This truly is a experience! Cate and Tom, the Inn keepers are very charming, warm people. There B&B is just breathtaking. We recently stayed there May 24th in the Artist room and had a wonderful time! We slept like logs and it was so peaceful! We will be returning again and again. Tracy

Waking up to 14 inches of snow in the middle of nowhere is a dream. Since discovering this gem, we go there regularly and it doesn't have to be an occasion. It's a step away from the hustle and bustle for a moment, take a breather, and then jump back into our chaotic existence. It is the perfect getaway from... More

Cate and Tom are wonderful hosts and the Inn is of massive masonry construction. Closest I have come to a castle! The rooms are exquisitely tasteful and spotless. Breakfast was delicious. We will return soon.

My husband and I spent New Year's Eve with friends at the Villa. We also invited others at the Villa to join us. What a wonderful time we had. The owners were accommodating and welcoming. They let us heat our food in the kitchen and even joined us for the festivities. It was more like family. The rooms are beautiful... More

We just stayed at Tamaracks Country Villa for New Years Eve and had an absolutely wonderful experience at this gem of a B&B. Cate & Tom were the most welcoming and enjoyable in keepers and the others guests became like extended family. We enjoyed delicious meals and lively conversation in their dining room. They treated us with such warmth and... More

We had a short stay at the Tamaracks Country Villa during Christmas week while visiting family in the area. My sister recommended this restored villa nestled in the winter woods. Tom and Cate were such great hosts, greeting us warmly and meeting our every need. I stayed in the Old Orchard Room -- the king-sized bed was very comfortable. Our... More

We stayed here with the bridal party the night before our daughter's wedding in November. What a lovely experience- luxuriant old word style with the modern comfort of thermal pane windows that let you watch the leaves blow by without feeling the chill. I felt like a duchess at the very least. All the rooms were well appointed but the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Originally built as a stone farmhouse at the turn of the 19th century, the Tamaracks Country Villa was later absorbed in 1909 into a European-style stucco “castle”, locally known as The Colby Mansion in Sussex County’s Skylands district.Secluded on 5 1/2 acres surrounded by gardens and woodlands, creek and lake, the inn was the dream home of a self-styled architect/entrepreneur and his internationally known artist-wife.While preserving much of the original interior spaces, the seven suites with private ensuite baths, gas fireplaces, and sitting/work areas, are all handcrafted rooms tastefully and artistically appointed. Some have soaking tubs, two person showers, and private balconies. Common areas abound on both floors of the inn providing spaces for guests to relax or visit with others and also for small social gatherings (weddings, club meetings, showers) or business meetings. The first floor is completely accessible and the entire building has a sprinkler system for our guests’ safety.A complimentary full breakfast is offered each morning in the dining room. With its open hearth, bake oven, and 12″ beams cut from the property, the dining room reflects the early Dutch settlers’ heritage.Come for a visit. We would love to share our inn with you. ... more   less
