I prefer the experience of a bed and breakfast to a mega chain hotel when I travel. I lived in Portsmouth for 10 years and remembered the Sise Inn, and thought it would be perfect for our romantic weekend getaway. At first I was disappointed that the Sise no longer existed. It was UNH graduation weekend and many places were... More

The 'hotel', is not a hotel. It has no concierge, room service, turn down service, etc. It is more like a B&B-a continental breakfast: juice, sweet bread, bagel, english muffin, coffee, yogurt, fruit. Eating area is nice, but small when the "hotel" is full, as it was when we were there. A lot of 'excuse me' going around. Our room was just inside... More

A very quaint hotel within walking distance to great restaurants. The room was perfect for our family very clean, new and comfortable. The staff was extremely friendly offering great restaurant suggestions. In addition, our car's battery died and Dana jumped our car!! I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and will return Thank you thank you

We have been driving back and forth cross country for the last 13 years. The Hotel Portsmouth would be ranked in the top ten. The Hotel was clean, quiet, beautifully decorated, staff friendly, and walking distance to restaurants and harbor. Congratulations to the proprietors/caretakers for preserving this historical property.

174 year old building that is loaded with charm and history. The rooms are nicely remodeled with great showers! The sink area in our room was a bit small but nicely appointed. Loved the bed....so comfortable. This boutique hotel was walking distance to town and tons of restaurants and shops. It offered free parking and a nice complimentary breakfast. This... More

Most unique aspect: iPad Mini in room with amenities and area sites/restaurants grouped and easy to browse. But best aspect was the great building with their WAY above-average friendly and helpful staff. These people truly care about what they do.

Did not feel dusty or old. Did not feel modern and forced. A perfect mix of history and modern amenities. Nice big rooms, sometimes a room with a king sized bed isn't much more than the bed itself. Staff was super helpful in recommending places and didn't steer us wrong once! Also, everything is within walking distance.

My husband and I just returned from a one night stay at The Hotel Portsmouth and we couldn't be more pleased. It was wonderful and far exceeded our expectations. We stayed for one night for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised. It is quaint and historic but also clean and modern. It really is the best of both worlds. I... More

The Hotel Portsmouth is a great choice! The staff was so friendly and helpful, my room was clean and comfortable after a long day of travel. My room even had an IPad and I particularly loved the glass decanter to fill up with still or sparkling water in the kitchen. The hotel is in a great location to walk into... More

Frequently, "historic" hotel disappoint when it comes to modern conveniences and guest amenities. This is NOT the case with The Hotel Portsmouth. The historic charm is complimented perfectly with the expectations of today's discerning traveler. , Well-appointed rooms, fantastic bed, modern baths with reliable plumbing, fast and free WiFi and staff who say "my pleasure" instead of "no problem" all...
