Comfortable & convenient . This historic inn , located in the heart of Portsmouth affords a delightful respite from the confines of a typical corporate hotel stay. Clean, tasteful decor, attention to detail without being pretentious, friendly staff - staying at the Hotel Portsmouth is a must.

The Portsmouth is more like a B&B than your typical hotel. Its 32 rooms, comfortable if a bit small, are simply but tastefully furnished. In lieu of a lobby there are two parlors, pleasantly retro, with such non-standard amenities as the Encyclopedia Britannica (other books as well), and two chess boards ready for action. There’s beautiful wood paneling throughout the... More

This hotel was wonderful for our family. The top floor suite had a separate room with a king and bunk beds in the main room. Staff was extremely pleasant. Hotel was great - well kept and held to its original roots. Easy walking distance to strawbery Banke and downtown, in the heart of things yet a bit quieter.

My daughter recommended The Hotel Portsmouth; we're glad we followed her advice! Friendly staff, immaculately clean and walking distance to the shops, restaurants and attractions. We will definitely be back!

Having stayed in the Portsmouth chain hotels several times we decided to try the recently renovated Hotel Portsmouth and were pleasantly surprised. The two young ladies at the reception desk were friendly, helpful and professional. We were provided with an area map and suggestions for dinner without asking. Great customer service! The hotel, recently renovated, maintains its historic charm while... More

On our annual "pilgrimage" to Ogunquit (Maine), we decided to stay over in Portsmouth (NH) and take in the sights before heading up 95. We read the Trip Advisor reviews and The Hotel Portsmouth seemed like a good fit -- small boutique hotel with a B&B quality. The hotel lived up to its reputation. The room was lovely, well-maintained and... More

My husband and I wanted to stay overnight in Portsmouth to take in the area and were unsure where to stay. We chose this place because of all of the good reviews it received but didn't really know what to expect, since the photos on the website don't do this place justice at all. This is a beautiful, interesting old... More

What a treasure!! We spent a night here, and wished we could have stayed longer. The detail put into every aspect of the hotel, the room, and the service was magnificent. The staff was so pleasant and helpful, a true pleasure to deal with each and every person we encountered!

We stayed in the Portsmouth Hotel for a wedding in early May. The facilities were perfect, clean rooms, caring staff, convenient location and a great place for family to gather over morning coffee and breakfast. The hotel is a cross between a high-end hotel and B&B, with the best features of each. The staff was friendly, but we did not... More

This boutique style hotel is new, clean, cozy and conveniently located. All new rooms and lovely common areas, including a "kitchen" where hot bevs are available at all hours and a continental breakfast is served daily. We love this place and hope to return very soon! All shopping and restaurants are within a 5 minute walk.
