Just had a lovely two night stay here. Hotel is a cute boutique place a block away from downtown Portsmouth. The rooms were modern and clean but a bit on the small side. We had a room on the northern side which didn't have much of a view as there is an adjacent building although the room still had a... More

We stayed here for one night when in the area for a weekend getaway - parking, though offsite, was easy and convenient. The location is perfect, so close to the downtown area for easy walking/exploration. We were immediately charmed when we were welcomed with complimentary cookies and beers - Craig was also incredibly helpful in planning our afternoon of brewery... More

We're elated to hear that our Portsmouth hotel is one of the most accommodating places you've ever stayed - that's exactly how we hope to make people feel when they visit a Lark hotel. The cookies and beer never hurt either! Thanks for visiting us in Portsmouth and for taking the time to tell us that we exceeded your expectations.... More

We often frequent boutique style hotels when we travel and were not disappointed by The Ale House. As per the photos this place was immaculate and situated in a very convenient part of downtown. We love travelling to the smaller cities in hopes of getting a less hectic and more personal side of US cultures, we could have not been... More

So happy to hear you appreciated Portsmouth as much as we do, and thrilled you chose Ale House Inn as your home base while there. At Lark Hotels we're dedicated to offering boutique accommodations in iconic destination locations, and Portsmouth definitely fits that bill! We're fortunate that our property there is in such a convenient location, and Chelsea is terrific... More

We were here just for one night as a mini-vacation. We were drawn to the history of this building-- an old brewery converted into a hotel!!-- and the location. It was very clean, quiet, and modern. We loved the decor of the room and the staff was very friendly. There were snacks in the common area when we got in... More

We at Lark Hotels love mini-vacations and highly encourage them! So glad you were able to join us at our Portsmouth hotel for a getaway, no matter how brief. And we love that you combined themes and visited the Smuttynose Brewery while you were in Portsmouth. It's great to have a partnership with them since we're obviously brewery focused! We... More

I agree with all the positive comments already stated. Very cool little hotel with a casual funk and eclectic feel. Inn keeper was very nice and the rooms were appointed nicely. The place is historic although the walls didn't talk to us, we just imagined... Portsmouth is on the move. Even though it was February, the city is very accessible,... More

We finally had a chance to check out the Inn… usually heading into town last minute or in the summer for 1 single night, we haven't been able to stay. We were thrilled to have the chance… and weren't disappointed! Super location. Parking was of concern to me prior to arriving, but that went out immediately. Parking right across the... More

We liked everything about this small hotel but the walls are too thin. The beds were comfortable, the people friendly, the location central to walking all over Portsmouth...but we could hear the TV and the snoring from the next room which colors my review.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at our historic Portsmouth boutique hotel. It's in such a fun location, and is indeed really central to experiencing the best of Portsmouth. Unfortunately, because we are limited in our renovating capabilities on historic properties, this can be one of the repercussions. We are looking for ways to remedy soundproofing... More

The staff is friendly, our room (#7) was beautiful and didn't feel cramped like the other 9 rooms, but this isn't a bad thing. This small, micro-hotel is extremely warm and welcoming! From the complimentary beers on our arrival, to the free snacks that we enjoyed late night after bar hopping. The location is literally in the middle of everything,... More

We are so glad that you had a perfect getaway weekend and enjoyed our deluxe king room, which offers a full sitting area and lots of space. The views of the bridge to Maine and downtown are a plus, too! Our other rooms are more intimate and affordable, but also offer great amenities and are bigger than almost every hotel... More

Absolutely amazing place to stay. We went for our anniversary and were so excited and happy right when we walked up the stairs. Our room was perfect being that it was one of the best rooms in the whole inn, there are 11 total rooms. We can't wait to go back again.
