Very well situated, this original hotel provides a unique experience for which the attention to the guest is perceptible in the smallest details. An IPad offers all the necessary information about the city. Free beers are available in the refrigerator in memory of the previous life of the place as a brewery.

My husband and I were looking for a getaway that wasn't too far from home or very expensive. I looked into the Ale House Inn, what a great find. Our room was small but we knew we would be out on the town so that was ok and it was spotless, so clean and well stocked with bath products as... More

Just spent a night here with my girlfriend last weekend while we visited Portsmouth for the first time. We loved the Ale House Inn! It's a pretty small place, about 10 rooms in one hallway. We went for the Deluxe King room. Definitely worth the extra price! Super nice room, very nicely decorated, very clean, extremely comfortable bed. The inn... More

Portsmouth is an awesome seaside town with old world charm and plenty of beer to quench your thirst. The Inn was once a brewery and is within walking distance to today's fine breweries. Parking was free and located across the street. The inn has limited staffing so this is not a place for folks who need pampering. The rooms were... More

We had a great experience at Ale House Inn's sister hotel in Kennebunkport, and wanted to check this one out while in Portsmouth. In comparison, this was a 4 star while the one in Kennebunkport was a 5, but it was still a great stay. The room we stayed in was a cozy queen room, right across from the front... More

Great little hotel! The location is perfect- walking distance to all the great restaurants, but still on a quiet street. The rooms were lovely - not huge - but really comfortable. Excellent customer service - I left something in the room and they mailed it back to me. It was breakable, and they took care to wrap it really well.... More

We went to Portsmouth for a mini vacation to get away from it all. The Ale House Inn was the perfect place to stay. It is a charming, small hotel that only has about 10 rooms. We booked last minute and got a "petite queen". It was not a large room but it met all our needs perfectly. Has a... More

Not worthwile. Too expensive for what it offers. Our room had no view at all, and just a small, high window. Rooms are very small and not suitable for two. The bathroom is really tiny. It should be considered as a single room. Free parking was convenient. And the location is not bad. I wouldn't recommend it at all, specially... More

Just had a lovely two night stay here. Hotel is a cute boutique place a block away from downtown Portsmouth. The rooms were modern and clean but a bit on the small side. We had a room on the northern side which didn't have much of a view as there is an adjacent building although the room still had a... More

We're so pleased you had a lovely experience with us at our boutique Portsmouth hotel! Being a small inn located in a historic property in the midst of town, we are limited in our renovation capabilities, so the rooms tend to be on the smaller side. We think that's one of Ale House Inn's charms, though, and we're glad you... More

We stayed here for one night when in the area for a weekend getaway - parking, though offsite, was easy and convenient. The location is perfect, so close to the downtown area for easy walking/exploration. We were immediately charmed when we were welcomed with complimentary cookies and beers - Craig was also incredibly helpful in planning our afternoon of brewery... More

We're elated to hear that our Portsmouth hotel is one of the most accommodating places you've ever stayed - that's exactly how we hope to make people feel when they visit a Lark hotel. The cookies and beer never hurt either! Thanks for visiting us in Portsmouth and for taking the time to tell us that we exceeded your expectations.... More
