We had a terrible stay here in the fall of 2011. The water smelled horrible, as did all the linens. Our room had no internet access, so we had to keep walking to the dining area to get any work done. FYI, we weren't on vacation; this is where our landlords put us up while the septic was being replaced... More

This may not be the Waldorf Astoria, but for the price, it was the only game in town. Lodging in Hanover is very expensive and for a hiker on the AT you are watching your dollars (and pennies). A bit out of town, there is a regional shuttle (bus) that runs from Hanover to White River Junction down the road.... More

We stay at the Chieftain every time we visit Hanover. It's enough close to the town, and has great rates. They have nice rooms for families with kids, we usually try to get one with bunks beds. Some of the decor is getting a bit old, and breakfast is kind of spotty and/or unhealthy. Still, definitely worth it!

We stayed here for a night while visiting Dartmouth. We chose it because it was considerably cheaper than the other reviewed hotels in Hanover. It's nothing fancy, but there were no problems at all. The room was clean and comfortable, and we slept soundly even with the windows open. Not many frills, but only a mile from downtown Hanover and... More

This hotel is just okay -- maybe 2.5 stars -- the best things going for it are (1) it's by far the most affordable accommodation in Hanover, and (2) the lovely, lovely view from the property out the back. Now to the reasons why we won't be going back: I emailed the proprietor to ask about reserving a quiet room... More

Don't be put off by the occasional snarky comment, evidently placed by those who maybe expected the Four Seasons. This is a nice, clean, family-owned-and-operated motel less than 10 minutes from Dartmouth and with sweeping views of the Connecticut River. The rooms are large, with pine paneling and new couches, and newly-renovated bathrooms. The breakfast room had plenty of freshly-baked... More

We stayed at the Chieftan during Christmas week, 2012. Our granddaughter had just been born at Dartmouth Medical Center and we needed to be close to our son's home in Hanover for the holidays. Upon arrival, we were told about the complimentary breakfast, (which was pretty good and convenient each morning). Our room was very comfortable, especially the king sleigh... More

Due to a very ill family member I had to change my travel plans. The Chieftan Motor Inn charged me $125 despite the fact that I cancelled a week ahead of time! Be very careful before booking a room here.

This place was alright. We stayed here because it was much cheaper than other places in the area and because of the free drop-off and pick-up at hiking trails nearby. (We had come to Hanover wanting to hike and didn't have a vehicle.) Imagine our surprise when we were told upon arriving that that service was not being offered at... More

We really enjoyed our stay at the Chieftain. It was particularly nice to have the grassy area out back, with a gorgeous view of the Connecticut River. The hotel is dog-friendly and they were true to their word on that score. Breakfasts were different every day -- one day we had our choice of fabulous pastries, another day it was... More
