The Pickering House was exactly what I was hoping for when I booked it. Great room with cozy New England charm and great hosts. They offered up mountains of advice for things to do and places to eat that helped us out tremendously as it was our first time in the area. Location was close without being downtown which made... We had a lovely stay at 1810 Pickering House. Everything was just perfect. Our 4 posted mahogany bed had a new firm mattress, the sheets were soft and blankets, warm. The Christmas decor was festive but tasteful. The innkeepers greeted us in the morning with fresh coffee and fruit in front of a blazing fireplace and made delicious French toast... More

We enjoyed our night at the Pickering House. We got great advice about where to eat (and even where to park) in Portsmouth, a nice, quiet route for a morning run, and we had a restful sleep. Thank you for a pleasant escape!

We visited the area for a celebration and reunion with friends, and spent 2 nights in this delightful B&B. The Pickering House is a home away from home. It is a comfortable, spacious and well-appointed historic house, with many personal touches.. Steve and Julia were outstanding hosts in every sense of the word! They attended to the needs of all... We stayed in the Phillips Suite of this lovely old home. The neighborhood is quiet and the king-sized bed was very comfortable, so we slept well. Steve was very helpful with directions to Portsmouth and great suggestions for eating in Kittery, Maine. We had home-made maple syrup with our French toast. Wife Julia was a delight to talk with and... More

We made an unexpected trip back to New Hampshire last spring to visit with family. I consider it a great fortune to have found Pickering House. Since that first visit we have stayed twice more and hope to make many return trips. The Pickering house is a beautiful historic home colse enough to Portsmouth and Exeter to make it well... More

This was recommended by another B&B in Portsmouth who were full. Although it means driving into town it takes only a few minutes and Steve our host gave directions, told us where to park and recommended restaurants. It is a lovely old property in a quiet and refined neighbourhood and has lots of personal touches from Julia.and Steve. Our room was... More

This most beautiful home in a quiet setting is only a short distance from Portsmouth. The decorating is exquisite, the comfort level quite high and the breakfasts prepared and served by the most gracious hosts, Steve and Julia, are exquisite. What a wonderful, pleasant experience.

This historic home is located in a quiet neighborhood that seems almost rural. However, it is only a few minutes drive from the tourist attractions and restaurants of nearby Portsmouth. It was built around 1810 by the Pickering family and, no doubt, contains a lot of history. The place is attractive both inside and outside and the guest book contains... More
