Went for a weekend of skiing at Mount Sunapee, and was completely shocked by the quality of food provided. Anne the Innkeeper used to work on as a high-level chef for a number of years and provides fresh cooked gourmet dinners, with a great, unexpected level of variety. Additionally, the complimentary breakfast will sate and satisfy your appetite well into... More

Ann the owner and Chef is delightful and very eager to please. The rooms are quite affordable and decent but need some updating. The homespun atmosphere and good food make it well worth while. Don't expect 4 star luxury but to be treated like one of the family. Also BYOB and grab your own snacks and coffee anytime - so cool. There... More

My wife and I traveled to Washington, New Hampshire, for a small re-union with some of her college roommates. Washington, NH, is a VERY small community located roughly in the center of New Hampshire, in a remote area. There are few hotels/motels/restaurants in the area, unless one wishes to travel to Lake Suppanee (sp?), resort area. Luckily, we found the... More

My husband and daughter recently arranged a dinner for my birthday at the Backside Inn. We had 14 guests and were treated to a fantastic dinner prepared by Chef Anne. We were greeted by a roaring fire in the parlor and served appetizers and then moved into the dinning area for a salad course followed by an Italian buffet of... More

The welcome was warm as were our rooms during late January's below zero temperatures. The fireplace and wood stove added to the cozy atmosphere. This was a much better value than other Inns we've stayed at in the Mt. Sunapee ski area and is located on the back side of the mountain, as the name would suggest. Some folks in... More

Although our visit was very short (one night) we were impressed with the hospitality and the breakfast. Our room was a little odd- the entrance to the bathroom, in particular- but it was very comfortable and we really enjoyed talking to our hostess (and her sweet dog).

This place has great ,old school New England charm. Anne made us feel right at home. The rooms are cozy and clean with the feel of a country cottage. I had to laugh at one one of the reviews that mentioned that Annes kitchen wasn't clean. I've worked in high end establishments kitchens that, were truly filthy that pale in... More

The Backside Inn is close to Mt. Sunapee and Sunapee Lake, and has good value in that regard. It's a bit rough and tumble, is very old and not especially well decorated or maintained. The house has the "bones" for a nice B&B, and one certainly feels comfortable there. Anne, the proprietress, is friendly and easy going.

In our 18 day trip this was our least liked place we stayed. It was just run down in areas which gave us that "icky" feeling. We have stayed in other old places and did not feel that way. There was no internet and you couldn't get reception with AT&T.

Its been a while since I've been up to NH, but had to go up for a wedding this past weekend... And of course I stayed at the Backside Inn... Its convenient to all family and tourist-related things, and I'm now loyal to them based on previous stays... After two years, I'm glad to say that things are still great... More
