This is a property that looks good on the website, and in the guidebooks. What is not so obvious is that this is an aged Swiss genre property really in need of a full makeover.....it's somewhat fusty and old, with some cheapish faded decor and surrounds. The room we stayed in was musty, small, and hard to be comfortable in... more

I remember this situation clearly - everyone at the restaurant does! This type of thing rarely happens. It was one of our very busy nights and your dinner order got misplaced. Our server was having a very bad night - she screwed up. Chef Bunnell tried to speak with you but your anger was uncontrollable and you left with a...

The room was very nice - antiquated, but nice. It was very reasonably priced when compared to Stowe, Okemo, Killington, etc., and Cranmore is literally right down the street. But the Bernerhof is obviously locally owned and operated (which has it's advantages), and is thus unfortunately incompetently run. The staff means well but has no real power to make decisions,... more

The Bernerhof Inn is locally owned. As managers, my husband and I spend at least 350 days on site. When we are not present we have strong, experienced staff with decision making powers to represesnt us. The restaurant and its chef, Gary Bunnell, receive rave reviews from locals and visitors alike. If we get one negative comment in 50, that...

One of the worst places I've ever stayed. I booked a package for my boyfriends birthday. It included champagne, a fireplace and a dinner at the restaurant on sight. I'm highly allergic to animals and the first thing I always ask is if animals are allowed at the location. I was assured that there was no animals on sight. We... more

I am so sorry you did not like Willow. Willow is our Golden Doodle, she is prominently pictured on our web site. She is hypo algergenic and non shedding. Willow is not allowed in the guest rooms. In the 3 years we have had her she has made many friends for us. I have only had one guest have a...

I loved the Bernerhof....it was clean, friendly and marvelous. We had a great breakfast cooked to order by the gal running the show there that weekend. I'd stay there anytime! more

The Bernerhof was exactly what we were looking for in a country inn...authentic and charming, gracious hosts. We had Room 2...very cozy and quiet, facing away from Route 302. Even though this is one of the smaller rooms on the property, it was plenty big enough for us. A very comfortable bed made for two very sound nights' sleep. Fabulous... more

What a wonderful 48 hour vacation! Walking through the doors of this quintessential turn of the 19th century inn, I instantly felt a sense of excitement and relaxation. We were greeted by the vivacious innkeeper who showed us around the inn pointing out Black Bear Pub and The Dining Room with all its "bearafanalia" and beautiful old oak walls and... more

We would stay at the Bernerhof Inn again. The Inn is cozy with a very friendly, helpful staff. Scamp, the bartender at the Inn's Black Bear Cafe, was witty and charming. The Black Bear has a warm atmosphere. June, the innkeeper, provided us with passes for nearby Pinkham Notch, for skiing or tubing - a nice bonus! Our room (#4)... more

My wife and I stayed at the Bernerhof for three nights in October, 2006, during the fall foliage season. Overall we enjoyed it, but we also have some reservations, particularly considering the abundance of other accommodations in the area. The Inn is located just north of North Conway, and sits just off the highway that leads to nearby ski areas... more

Lovely people, very friendly and helpful staff. Our room was the GoldenWood, which is the one just above the canopy on the Inn’s website. Very large, nicely appointed, with windows facing in 3 directions. We could have invited another couple to share the bed. There is a different breakfast each morning: typically a cup of fresh fruit, a fresh-baked muffin... more
