This is a lovingly restored inn with spacious, well-tended grounds and an eye for detail. The dining room menu includes local fare -- some from the property's own gardens. Our perfect stay included a glass of wine in the comfortable lawn chairs, dinner on the patio, and a good night's sleep in the quiet and comfortable bedroom. Breakfast the next... More

The idea looked great on the internet, but in real life with the inn's restaurant closed, it just wasn't as fun as we hoped it would be. There seemed to be little in the area in the way of good restaurants to choose from. Under those circumstances, one is a little isolated, and there wasn't a lot to make us... More

The Horse and Hound is a country inn down a quite road but near many of the activities and sights of the White Mountain area. Your host is Doug who is very friendly always takes the time to talk with you and answer any questions about the area or give suggestions on trails you might want to hike or sights... More

We loved the ambience of the B&B. Surrounding was so peaceful too. We drove there from Ontario, stayed there for a night, and then started our hike in the White Mountains next morning. It was very conveniently located for it.

This place is an example to others as to how to run a Inn. Genuine welcome, a host who actually sits and talks with many of his guests, superb food, comfortable beds with decent linens, gorgeous gardens in a great location, simple, stylish and classy mix of furniture in the lounge/library area - all together, this is an example to... Beautiful house, amazing food, gracious wait staff and friendly host. I had a perfect birthday dinner at Horse and Hound and would absolutely recommend this hidden treasure. Can't wait to return! What wonderful atmosphere!

We have had excellent dinners here and decided to try and stay when we had sudden opportunity to be in Franconia and our normal accommodation was full. Inn is beautifully restored and rooms are simple inspired by Shaker furniture but elegant and comfortable with things like 100 thread count sheets. Food is excellent and the restaurant is the best in... More

Simple bedroom furnishings, that's what grabbed our attention, when searching for somewhere to stay in or near Franconia. The pictures on TripAdvisor showed the Horse and Hound to be tastefully but simply furnished, with narry a swagged curtain or swirl patterned carpet in sight, and that suited us Brits down to the ground. And so it was. The Inn is... More

After reading of the Inn's renovation, we headed up for a ski weekend to check it out. All changes were extremely positive. The staff was great, the entire place is immaculate, the rooms, although spartan, are very nice with new furniture. The best? The dining room. We had a superb dinner one evening, quite a change from the "diner food"... More

The owners truly showed respect for the integrity of the Inn and it's long history by restoring it to it's original "charm". Everything is done with quality from the food to the decor. The attention to detail is evident throughout.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC. The Horse and Hound, located in the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, first opened in 1946 as a tasteful inn, tavern and restaurant. With three fireplaces and knotty pine paneling throughout, the inn welcomed everyone from Hollywood stars to local outdoor enthusiasts and quickly established a reputation for great food, elegant lodging and warm hospitality. Now celebrating its 65th anniversary, the Horse and Hound was closed from December 2010 through June 2011 while undergoing a comprehensive restoration to its classic lodge style. Now completed, the cheerful tavern, gracious dining room, elegant lobby, handsome library/lounge, and nine restful guest rooms once again invite you to unwind and relax after an active day in the Great Outdoors. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to welcoming you back. FOOD, SPORT & STEWARDSHIP OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS. ... more   less
