This place is an example to others as to how to run a Inn. Genuine welcome, a host who actually sits and talks with many of his guests, superb food, comfortable beds with decent linens, gorgeous gardens in a great location, simple, stylish and classy mix of furniture in the lounge/library area - all together, this is an example to... Beautiful house, amazing food, gracious wait staff and friendly host. I had a perfect birthday dinner at Horse and Hound and would absolutely recommend this hidden treasure. Can't wait to return! What wonderful atmosphere!

We have had excellent dinners here and decided to try and stay when we had sudden opportunity to be in Franconia and our normal accommodation was full. Inn is beautifully restored and rooms are simple inspired by Shaker furniture but elegant and comfortable with things like 100 thread count sheets. Food is excellent and the restaurant is the best in... More

Simple bedroom furnishings, that's what grabbed our attention, when searching for somewhere to stay in or near Franconia. The pictures on TripAdvisor showed the Horse and Hound to be tastefully but simply furnished, with narry a swagged curtain or swirl patterned carpet in sight, and that suited us Brits down to the ground. And so it was. The Inn is... More

After reading of the Inn's renovation, we headed up for a ski weekend to check it out. All changes were extremely positive. The staff was great, the entire place is immaculate, the rooms, although spartan, are very nice with new furniture. The best? The dining room. We had a superb dinner one evening, quite a change from the "diner food"... More

The owners truly showed respect for the integrity of the Inn and it's long history by restoring it to it's original "charm". Everything is done with quality from the food to the decor. The attention to detail is evident throughout.

A great weekend. Beautifully renovated old Inn. The place was spotless with great common areas - a wonderful library/lounge with a great selection of games and local maps for hikings, x-c skiing etc. Challenging Snowshoeing and Cross Country skiing right from the door. The owner (Doug) was very helpful with suggestions, maps etc. Restaurant was excellent. Not inexpensive but fair... More

We visit the area often on business, and we always go back to the Horse & Hound. Uncharacteristically, it is better than the description on its web site - for the simple reason that the owners, staff and chef are better in person. As is the facility. Everything first rate - the food, ambience, outdoor seating (in season), herb garden,... More

We stayed at the H&H Inn a few years ago after they renovated, it was lovely. This time we went for NY Eve dinner and weekend. What a fabulous time! The proprietor, Doug, was so lovely he greeted us when we arrived and made a huge effort to assure our time there in total was not only what we expected,... More

This was not the first time I've stayed at the Horse and Hound Inn, and it certainly won't be the last. We had a fantastic dinner on New Year's Eve in front of a a warming fire, and thoroughly enjoyed the peace and quiet of the lovely secluded setting. Doug M (our Innkeeper) was the most gracious host, and the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC. The Horse and Hound, located in the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, first opened in 1946 as a tasteful inn, tavern and restaurant. With three fireplaces and knotty pine paneling throughout, the inn welcomed everyone from Hollywood stars to local outdoor enthusiasts and quickly established a reputation for great food, elegant lodging and warm hospitality. Now celebrating its 65th anniversary, the Horse and Hound was closed from December 2010 through June 2011 while undergoing a comprehensive restoration to its classic lodge style. Now completed, the cheerful tavern, gracious dining room, elegant lobby, handsome library/lounge, and nine restful guest rooms once again invite you to unwind and relax after an active day in the Great Outdoors. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to welcoming you back. FOOD, SPORT & STEWARDSHIP OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS. ... more   less
