In 2011, invited by the University of New Hampshire for a half-a-year visit, I had to find a place in Durham or around, for me to stay with my wife and our youngest son (schooled at the Durham Junior High School). A Guest House accomodation soon appeared to be the best solution, and I contacted “The Pines”, since this seemed... More

Thanks so much for such a glowing review! We so much appreciate our many return guests as they become friends whom we happily welcome over and over. They become a part of our family for a time as we are often introduced to other members of their family and colleagues during repeat visits. It is difficult to say goodby and... More

Thank you so much for your positive comments on your recent stay at The Pines. We try to assist our guests with orientation to the Durham area including transportation to and from local destinations such as malls and grocery stores. As a small business we are able to meet the needs of our guests in ways that are more difficult... More

We stayed here for one night while up for visiting day at UNH. It's a charming, historic Inn run by super friendly hosts, Mary Margaret and Roger. We typically avoid chain hotels and were very pleased with this unique Inn due to it's history, charming decor, delicious breakfast, and of course, the hosts. We were arriving very late, close to... We spent three beautiful nights at the Pines and enjoyed every moment. The innkeeper Mary Margaret and her husband Roger were very friendly, interesting and a delight to get to know. They made efforts daily to be sure we were comfortable and well cared for. The rooms were cozy, clean and spacious, furnished with antiques from 6 generations. We were... More

It is a simple B and B, reasonably priced, less than a mile from downtown. If you are looking for fancy go somewhere else. If you are looking for basic with a friendly host who is going to provide cereal, fruit and a bagel for breakfast. Stop in. I had no problem calling a day in advance during the week... More

Thank you, Patrick for taking the time to write a review. We were pleased to be able to accommodate you on short notice. There actually was a TV in the armoire that I neglected to mention when you checked in. Our breakfasts are standard with tea, coffee, juice, cereals and toast or bagels and local Stonewall Kitchen jellies. I always... More

My daughter and I were traveling in NH for a few days and needed a place for one night only after a regional sporting event. This bed and breakfast guest house is operated by a delightful husband and wife. The house has been in the family for 6 generations. Location is 1 mile from the University of New Hampshire campus.... I really enjoyed my stay here in Feb.2012. In October, 2012 tried to book again for a return stay in Feb, 2013. While it is true that we often entertain many visitors and scholars connected with the university for extended lengths of time, we still entertain a large number of bed and breakfast guests. I attempt to reserve certain rooms for those guests who are here for a shorter time. Sometimes it is difficult to determine availability several months in advance of... More

The Pines Guest House has beautiful riverside acreage, yet it's also conveniently close to downtown Durham NH. Part of this historic Victorian mansion was built in the 1700's. The interior is decorated with many family antiques and unique collections. The bedrooms and baths are simple, reflecting the reasonable lodging rates. If you overlook a little dust under the beds, you... More

The Pines is an old house that's been in the inkeepers' family for generations. It seems like it's mostly used by longer-term visitors at the University, but it also works for short stays like mine. It's got typical old house issues -- squeaky floors and some drafts, but it's clean and pleasantly furnished. The lighting and heat weren't quite up... More

This is an interesting place with again, interesting, hosts. There's a good written history in each room. Our group came in late in the afternoon and left the next morning, and my guess is that the atmosphere is probably more suited to long-term stays by persons working with the nearby university who wish to take care of themselves and use...
