I'm not sure why this is advertised as a B&B, or why the prices are so high. I've stayed in B&Bs and I've stayed in hostels, and the Hickory Pond Inn was definetly a hostel. The rooms were not very clean, small, and in disrepair. The owner gave me a cheaper rate over the phone ($10 off each room) but... more

We originally decided upon the Hickory Pond Inn after we had sucessfully bid on a gift certificate to the Inn in a charity auction. The certificate was supposed to be for one night's stay, breakfast, and $50 credit at their restaurant (a supposed value of $225). We made the reservation the week before our expected arrival. At that time, we... more

My sister's family and our family, total of nine people with three teenagers, needed a place to stay that would offer different room options and flexibility with arrival and departure times. Our host, Jane Brown Sparks, was so accommodating and kind. She fed us delicious breakfasts, including scrambled eggs infused with herbs; bacon, and the best blueberry coffeecake I have... more

My wife and I were looking for an overnight stay in the Portsmouth area while our daughters stayed elsewhere in NH with relatives. What made the search a bit more difficult is that we had our Sheltie dog with us and we also wanted something more attractive than the "same old, same old" hotel room. With the help of the... more

The place is described as charming and historic, on 25 acres of land, but this is FAR from the truth. In actuallity, we were given a room in an addition built onto the "old" house in the 1980s. And it LOOKED like 1980. And it SMELLED like it hadn't been cleaned scince 1980, and the mattress was certainly an original... more

Ever had a wonderful experience somewhere, and then tried to repeat it a few years later? Well, that's what I did and I was not disappointed. I had stayed at Hickory Pond about four years earlier on a solo business trip, and resolved then and there that if I ever came back this way I'd stay here and also bring... more

We stayed in the Hickory Pond Inn for 4th of July weekend this year. The inn was quaint and rustic and in a quiet area. Unfortunately, the bed was the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept on. It was hard and old with springs that dug into your back--I woke up both mornings with back spasms. The other problem... more

This was an overnight for me and my husband to get away from our 3 young children. We had a wonderful stay. It gave you that warm and cozy feeling. Everyone was extremely nice, friendly and helpful. I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before. I really liked the atmosphere. the room was extremely clean. Taking my shower... more

I stayed at the Inn as part of a team work session. Our arrangements were fine. We had a productive meeting and the inn keeper offered lots of helpful hints on where to go and things to do during our free time. The food was great. Everyone was very flexible and cooperative. more

I was very disappointed in the quality of the property and the service we received at Hickery Pond. The complex is billed as a bed and breakfast but in fact it is a small hotel with little of the charm of a real New England bed and breakfast. When we arrived the heat had to be "turned on" as our... more
