As we drove into the Balsams resort my first impression was, "This is a beautiful place in the middle of nowhere." As my stay progressed I have been sold on The Balsams. We arrived around 1:00pm and our room was not ready. I went to the pool bar to have some lunch while my wife explored the property. The bar... more

Relaxing Resort, Fantastic Scenery, Entertaining Activities. My family had planned to stay and chill out at a resort during the labour day weekend, and The Balsams was chosen for it's dog friendly rooms and service. We got there late, at about 9 pm, and we still managed to have a great diner. The food was fantastic, the breakfasts being a... more

It took my wife three days to book a room. Between computer issues, front desk help out to lunch, and no one returning phone calls we figured the place must be super, with very high demand. After check in, we were escorted by the bellman to our room, having very high expectations (price of room, high end service) just to... more

Even though it was pricey we chose the Balsams Grand for a 20th wedding anniversary springtime stay. It was fabulous - a once in a lifetime splurge that I hope we can repeat soon. The property has a grandeur of a bygone era, yet with most of the amenities of today's world-class resort including wireless Internet, exceptional dining, tennis, golf,... more

Lets compare apples to apples... The Balsams Grand Resort does not compare with the Del Coranodo in San Diego, Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, Marriott Wentworth by the Sea, or the Eden Roc. Calling this hotel a Grand Resort is very misleading. I would call it a High in CAMP. The room I had looked like Laura Ashley threw... more

My husband and I have stayed at the Balsams several times during the past three years and have enjoyed it every time - the last time, in September 2007, we brought along guests from Australia and they loved it, too. Last year, The Balsams changed its no-pets policy, and now guests who bring their pets stay in a separate building... more

We have been going to the Balsams since 1995. We were concerned because of some of the negative reviews here since the takeover. We are pleased to report that everything was up to the "old" standards, and I would say that service was actually better than last year. The entire staff was very attentive, professional, and friendly. Our waitstaff and... more

We just returned from a very short stay at the Balsams and just wanted to write a couple of notes that might be useful to people planning to visit. Before going I read some of the comments and always am looking for something useful rather than general impressions or personal taste issues. First. If there was one BIG problem for... more

We are family of four with two children, ages 6 and 7, and we stayed at the Balsams for five nights during President's week, 2008. We had been to the Balsams a few years earlier and this time improvements were evident. Our room (a superior room, same as last time) was nicer, as were many of the stately public areas.... more

We were given a three-night gift certificate to The Balsams and from all the reviews and their website, we were looking forward to going. What a disappointment! There's no doubt that the location is beautiful but that's pretty much all that's beautiful. The entrance alone tells you everything you need to know - tired and ugly, with hospital-like doors and... more
