Stayed here with my friends after Presidential Traverse trip. Great place to rest up from hiking activity, since it provides most of the modern amenities that huts in White Mts don't provide (hot shower, comfortable beds). Also, I liked the price for what I was getting which included buffet for dinner and breakfast. It looked like it had a game... More

The Highland Center, operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club, is a lodge that offers meals, outdoor activities including guided nature walks, bunk rooms and private rooms. The accommodations are somewhat spartan, but provide everything you need after a day of hiking. The Center also has a gear room provided by LL Bean where guests can borrow everything from a backpack... More

Another rainy weekend in the mountains, and it was awesome to be able to borrow LL Bean gear for free at the AMC Highland Center. Hiking boots and rain pants for everyone, including my 3 year old and 7 year old. The food is only fair (but plentiful), and the lodgings are sparse and rooms small, but more than adequate.... More

Years ago I stayed in the AMC huts but now prefer some creature comforts. I wasn't familiar with the Lodge at Crawford Notch and was pleasantly surprised to have an option of a very comfortable room with private bath. Fee includes buffet style breakfast and dinner, which were excellent. Usual traditional breakfast offerings and an excellent choice of fresh fruits... More

The Highland Center is a wonderful facility located near Bretton Woods ski area, the Appalachian Trail, and in the middle of NH's mountains. Run by the AMC, the people are friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms are large with private bathrooms (some) or you can select the bunk option. Unlike Pinkham Notch, the center has a liquor license so you have... More

We stayed there for a Road Scholars program during the last week of February 2014 and it was wonderful! Our room was a private with a queen bed and a private bath. The view from Room 303 was of Mount Washington Hotel surrounded by the mountains. Bedding was flannel sheets from L.L. Bean. Bathroom area had a large counter top,... More

Trail Conditions: What if the ruts were filled in, and the rocks and roots covered? That's mid-winter hiking. You don't need snow shoes. Light crampons will do it. And more: the trees make a wind lee and the streams are frozen solid for crossing. Two comments: 1. It would be nice to have an electric vehicle charging station. 2. Bretton... More

Highland Center is run by the Appalachian Mountain Club and is geared for those who love the outdoors and exploring the world in natural settings. Even though I live in Florida I joined the AMC and visited this lodge for 4 days in February. I loved it! The rooms were warm and comfortable, with L.L. Bean flannel bed linens. The... More

AMC does it again, Pinkham is excellent and Highland is very good. The rooms are clean, well made providing a good rest; there is no noise that can be heard and quiet hours are respected. Food is offered if desired. Breakfast is easy and healthy options. Food allergies accommodated. Front desk very helpful.

If your schedule is flexible ask about the discount periods. We just got the 30% off rate. Depending on how long you stay it might be worth your while to join the AMC, even if you're a die hard flatlander and don't plan another mountain experience. One good strategy is to hike from every trail head parking lot. Just go... More
