I hesitated to give this lovely historic property a " poor" rating, but compared to the other places we've stayed recently, it really does not rate as "average." In terms of service, amenities and especially upkeep, while not horrible, it is definitely one of the worse places we have stayed. Don't get me wrong; it's not because of the charming... More

My husband and I wanted room #4 which is called Roise's room. She supposely to be a nice lady spirit (ghost). We got in that room, nobody was there and no weird feeling anything.... it was normal, a pretty pink wall, old fashioned furniture and were so small but it was weird because the floor wasn't very flat. I understand... More

We stayed in room 6, did not see any ghost activity there, the place had an overall creepy haunted feeling to it, the patio outside of the room was nice to have, the room was small but ok for the 2 nights we stayed, the bed was very uncomfortable, very few channels on the tv and would freeze up, no... Single guy...stayed there 1-27-14...room was # 14...clean and comfortable. I enjoy these old hotels as I am on a recent "Magical History Tour." I started Hiway 49 Calif. "Gold Rush Tour" and came here to check out the history in this area. Tons of mining history everywhere. I will come back to Virginia City and will check availability with this... More

I decided to surprise my girlfriend with a night here. We loved Virginia city so I thought this would be a cool place. The ghost hunter kit sold me. Unfortunately it's contents were a little disappointing. Some of the equipment was missing. Overall however, the bed was comfy, the fireplace in the bedroom was perfect for the snow falling outside.... More

Hi Juicebox! Thanks for the review- we enjoyed having you stay with us. I apologize about the Ghost Hunter Kit not being up to snuff- we haven't rented them much during the holiday season, so the front desk has gotten a little rusty on keeping them restocked and ready to go. We have scheduled a training meeting to review this... More

I was visiting my sister & brother-in-law in Reno and we decided on a quick getaway to VC. I checked several locations in the area for reviews, and thanks to the Trip Advisor reviewers, I called the Gold Hill. My first positive experience was with the lady who took my reservation. She could not have been nicer. We got two... More

We were enjoying our day in Virginia City and decided to get food and a few drinks at Gold Hill. The food is great and the staff is very helpful. I love the old charm; the entire hotel is breathtaking!! We ended up doing Karaoke and staying the night there. We stayed in one of the older rooms up front... More

WE first discovered this historically charming hotel several years ago, and it is our favorite place to stay in Virginia City! It is like stepping back in time, being very authentic, and not yuppified. Each room in the historic section of the structure has some lovely antiques. The Rose Room has a claw foot bathtub as well. WE have stayed... More

I was debating whether I should write this review or not. I'm sure most people will not believe me, but all I know is this was very real to me. I stayed in room 5 eleven years ago and had no ghostly interactions. Last Wednesday my sister and I stayed in room 5 and had a very different experience. Now... More

I adored this place. But that's me. The floors are lopsided. The doors don't exactly fit in their frame and the four post best doesn't have all their matching posting. But that is absolute and pure charm of this place. And did I mention the large awesome bath tub? Oh and I mention the ghost? Whereas I did not have... More

Hi luvmysteries- Thank you for your comments- we feel very lucky to be the stewards of a true historical gem- the oldest operating hotel in the state of Nevada. Despite it's quirks, there is something (as you said so eloquently) charming about its mis-fitting parts. We like to think that it is aging gracefully! I did want to point out... More
