Golden Gate (GG) is an old hotel on Fremont St. The rooms are small, there is no room service, Fremont Street parties all night,, but we still always stay 2 nights when we visit. Why? At the GG we a room facing Fremont St.. We can open our windows and watch the band on the stage right outside, and watch... More

I love American History. I never had the pleasure of staying here. The rooms are very clean. The front desk people were nice and very friendly. This place is like a time warp loved it. To the people who complain about the rooms being to small, the place opened up in 1906. People back then didn't eat 10,000 calories and... More

Wanted a decent place to spend a few nights in Las Vegas and found it. The Gate was well worth the price and although a small resort compared to the mega resorts on the strip, the hospitality of the staff more than made up for what other resorts offered. The place was clean and everyone on the property was cordial.... More

I was comp'ed three nights - it was a clean hotel with a very nice bed. The staff was friendly and the casino is always fun. Great diner with big fluffy pancakes and the best shrimp cocktail in Vegas. The noise wasn't an issue for me because we didn't get into the room u til 2am each night. Great place... More

We were in town for a friends wedding, and since we were getting in very late our first night we just wanted to find a clean cheap place to crash before checking into the expensive resort where the wedding was being held. After a little research, I found the Golden Gate and it was a fantastic choice. We arrived at... More

We were in Vegas for the outdoor recreational opportunities and wanted something a notch above camping in the desert. I got a screaming rate on the net for this hotel and figured it could not be that bad; Fremont Street is its own thing and I can deal with the experience in exchange for a bargain hotel room. Last year... More

So would I normally give a very good rating to a room that was barely 12x12? Probably not, except maybe in NYC. However, I have a thing for retro charm, and really liked the Golden Gate. We have played there on many occasions, but never stayed. But this trip, we were offered a comp, so spent one night downtown without... More

Service was slow, there was no one at the reception counter when we arrived for about 10 minutes and I had to go around asking but no one could help. Am not quite sure what did eventually prompt the floor manager to come out, perhaps it was when I callled for my husband across the room, then he heard? That... More

These folks try really hard. Its a great rate for downtown, rooms are old but clean, comfortable bed, free valet parking. But they are ON the Fremont Experience and the bands on the street at night are deafening! Maybe a room on the side away from Fremont would be better (duh, we should have asked when we checked in). The... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel," the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some. Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest and cozy corner establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it. Most notably, the Fremont Street Experience was built right outside its door. Very little has changed to compromise the hotel's old school charm in the intervening years, although the Golden Gate has made improvements and modernized. The hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors, at just 106 rooms. The rooms themselves, on the other hand, have been updated and include modern amenities like flat screen televisions and iHome clock radios. The casino is just as active as opening day -- and just as intimate -- although now its boasts Dealer Dancers from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly. Its shrimp cocktail -- widely acknowledged as the first ever served in Las Vegas -- is as popular as the day it was introduced. Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens, the Golden Gate keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history. ... more   less
