We were supposed to go to Bishop, california on our way to Las Vegas but the 395 was closed due to wildfires so detoured to Hawthorne to catch the 95 to Vegas the next day. Asked at the petrol station where best to stay and the attendant gave me the address for the El Capitan. It was perfect. Lovely helpful... More

Pros. Hot water worked well in shower, linens were clean, beds were ok. We need ada room, so there was a good ramp, and plenty of grab bars in shower. Cons. Carpet was filthy, vinyls floor in bath was dirty(caulk around toilet was yellow) coffee maker in room(no cups). Furniture worn out. Tv ancient. Ok place for workmen who need... More

There are billboards leading into Hawthorne, advising of newly remodeled rooms. I don't know how many there are, but no one in my group got one. Every room had issues. The heating/AC units were awful. The beds were probably from the 70's or sooner. Our coffee maker not only didn't make coffee, it leaked everywhere. Pillows were flat and lumpy.... More

We spent one night here on our trip to Las Vegas and again two weeks later returning from Grand Canyon. Motel is dated and a bit shop worn but clean and comfortable. Office staff are friendly and helpfull. The restuarant in the adjacent casino is very good and all our meals were excellant with friendly service and fair prices. Wont... More

We were on our way home from the burn. The drive was exhausting as usual. We decided pretty late that we were going to stay somewhere overnight. Hawthorne was the next city on the way home, so we picked El Capitan. The beds were clean, the room was clean. The carpet had some stains but that is probably because they... More

We wanted something close to Walker Lake without spending a ton of money so I thought we could try this even with previous reviews. We booked a corporate suite to be safe at $78. According to the pictures, it had flat screen tvs, microwave, coffee pot, fridge and separate room with couch and loveseat. Check in was slow due to... More

The hotel room was clean, but it is hard to keep a dated hotel clean. You step into your room and it seem that you go back to the 1980s, including a analog television. The staff is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is really the surprise, it is quite good. I would easily eat there again, as for staying the... More

This hotel is not at all what it advertises. Don't be fooled thinking that its a resort or casino because it isn't! Dirty rooms, old and disgusting are the four words that come to mind for this hotel not "home away from home" as the advertising says. Don't make the mistake we did of booking this hotel on-line!

Even though the casino looks rather sad (matter of fact, the whole town of Hawthorne looks sad with the many closed up storefronts), the restaurant inside the casino was rather good, albeit nothing fancy. We ordered a patty melt which was made to perfection and quite tasty. The accompanying french fires were also good...crisp on the outside and moist on... More
