I took my husband up to Laguna Mar to spend the first weekend in October as it was his birthday. I saw the place online and went only on reviews. The place is excellent if you are seeking a quiet weekend away from all the traffic and craziness of life. We arrived at night so waking up in the morning... More

This little Hotel/Restaurant is situated next to the road in Blanchisseuse. If you don't feel welcome here, it will be your own fault. When you enter you will experience the warmth and kindness of the owner and his daughter. You can enjoy sitting between the birds in the little garden, or inside. The food here is of the best in Trinidad..all... More

This hotel is in a fabulous position, rainforest at the back and the sea and a lovely beach across the road Not really accessible unless you have a car and therefore not within easy reach of any restos or watering holes other than Fred's across the road and a couple of shacks where you can buy drinks and cooked snacks... The bar/restaurant is reasonably priced and reasonable quality (although the red wine, at the equivalent of 5 GBP a small glass is not!). The local staff are pleasant and friendly and mein host, Fred, is extremely sociable and pleasant. The apartments are in need of refurbishment - particularly No 6, which has a terrible smell which does not respond to... More

Great location at the end of the road. Fred Zollna is a great host, lots of stories and very helpful. The lodge is in need of an overhaul but it does have a lot of faded character. The restaurant has an authentic local menu which was just great. We soon got used to the quirkiness of the place and really... More

you can tell that the hotel used to be a good and nice one. But the owner has not succeed in maintaining the level of quality. Our room was not clean at all, smelt humidity and the equipment was not in a good state (broken window in the bathroom, no pressure in the shower,...). Nevertheless, the tenant is nice and... More

Fred Zollna (Hotel's Manager/Owner) is the heart and soul of Laguna Mar. The hotel is nestled in the Northern Range mountains among lush tropical rainforests. Just waking up to the sound of the crashing surf and the orchestra of birds in the morning makes it worth the trip. Rooms are not five star, but are clean and comfortable. The food... More

The Lodge is a bit old but beautiful located. You can hike by yourselves to Yarra beach one hour or three hours one way to Paria Beach and Waterfall. Close to the lodge is the Marianne River where you can swim inside or take the sea. The water is very clear you can drink it. Ask for the way to... More

There is nothing remotely "resort-ish" about Laguna Mar. This is a third-rate guest house with a lot of shrubbery along dirty, slippery walkways. No one bothers to air the rooms for occupancy. The bed linens are thin and worn and so are the bath towels. Cracked wash basins and dripping shower heads do not spell resort to me either. The... More

This resort is a gem! The owner, Mr. Zollna, has a great staff and provides interesting insight on everything from local culture to food and current events. It was a joy to sit and relax with him after five crazy days of Carnival in the city and he was always available to grab a beer and play Rummikube (spelling?). The... More
