Well, that headline really sums it up. Mike and Linda are wonderful. The food is excellent and the water.. well the water is smelly sulfur but thats kind of the fun too. Gasping for air in a shower. Yes its comical and something you will laugh about long after your dusty drive to pavement. The High Plains is a high... More

My family and I had lunch at the High Plains Homestead and had a very nice time. I had a cheeseburger which was pretty darn good, while my wife and children had tacos, quesidillas, and nachos. They all enjoyed their meals. We then toured the town which was a small old western town with a jail, school, saloon, mill shop,... More

Great little place to get away. The drive is not easy, but you can feel your stress slip away as soon as you arrive. Leave your electronics at home, because they don't work out here. The food is superb and the rooms are unique. Evenings are great to get out and walk. The stars can actually be seen!! Easy access... More

My husband and I ventured out to the High Plains Homestead as part of our 2014 Nebraska Passport Adventure. This remote area became even more remote, when a detour took us even further out on a winding gravel road. With no signal available, or GPS, we bravely traveled on..... until a band of desperados forced us to stop on the... More

My husband and I spent two nights at the Homestead and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The room (The Warrior) , while a bit decor-cluttered, was comfortable and we both slept quite well. The view is wide-open and wonderful for watching storms move across the sky. The owners are warm, friendly people who make you feel at home. The food at the... More

The accommodation was further out of the city than we expected - 17 miles, but worth the drive. It's a remote area in the Nebraska Badlands. I still got phone signal though! The dinner has a charge - isn't included in the room rate - but was the best ribs we'd ever tasted! The steak was also wonderful. The breakfast... More

We were excited and pleased to drive 12 miles on a gravel road to come to this unique place. It is like an old Western town, the pics on their web-site are accurate. Being in such an isolated spot is just what we wanted! Our room (Saloon Girl) had 2 beds and, although very rustic and cabin-like, was decorated with... More

My husband and I stayed two nights while seeing the sights in the area. High Plains is very unique. It's like stepping back into an old western town complete with a cookshack, saloon, jail, livery stable, meandering cats and theme rooms. We stayed in The Warrior which was tastefully decorated in an Native American theme. On our second night we... More

Lovely people and rustic barren setting. Hearty meals, clean rooms. Delightfully windy with the fresh smell of sage. The landscape is one of crystal agate buttes and vast ranches. The Kesslers are good people with open hearts and they'll make you get up at day break for your morning meal. To make the experience richly western, the water has a... More
