Decided to spend my "significant birthday" here with my husband, rather than having a party at home. Stayed two nights, and had 3 friends join us for dinner on the Sat night, on the dinner/cruise trip. Really enjoyed ourselves, glad the rain stopped on Sat morning, but did make it a bit damp underfoot for our roam around the property.... More

I was so disappointed after hearing reports and reading Trip Advisor but we were very unhappy with our overnight stay. We had walked the Queen Charlotte Track and stayed at a number of lodges which were all just great and then we arrived at Lochmara which was over $100 more expensive per night than the most expensive to that point.... Another overnight trip and each time it just gets better. Firstly, avoid visiting weekends. It is busy with day trippers and local boaties dropping in. But during the week it is quieter and serene. The weather was beautiful - calm, sunny days. The water was like glass. We loved the new kayaks and kayaked all around the bay, accompanied by... More

We enjoyed two relaxing nights at Lochmara Lodge. Superb hospitality, best meals & service we experienced on our Queen Charlotte cycle trip. Inspiring ecological restoration. Very clean facilities. We felt welcome and relaxed. Loved our bath soak. Highly recommend this lodge to others

Arriving here on the boat from picton is amazing. The views on the way are fab and there's lots of wildlife to be seen on the way. We spotted penguins and seals. The rooms here are basic. No TVs but there is lots to do. You can kayak go on the long treks, feed the animals and try out the... More

We arrived on kayaks as part of a two day tour. After a day of (very tiring) kayaking we were beyond pleased to round the last bend and enter the lochmara lodge bay. Our serene entry was only partially marred by a rowdy party which was well underway at the lodge - they departed soon after and the lodge returned... More

We were really looking forward to our trip to Lochmara with some friends on their boat. We were disappointed. The service was slow and unprofessional . The food left a lot to be desired. It is generally looking run down and unloved. We had such a good time three years ago it is sad how it is now.

We lucked out with excellent weather the 3 days we stayed, which I'm sure made a big difference to our stay, and were charmed by ambiance and quirky (in a good way) personality of this wildlife and recovery center. We made use of the complimentary kayaks available to us, and thoroughly enjoyed feeding the kakarikis, eels and our leisurely nature... More

Lochmara lodge is suitable for everyone because this is all-in-one place such as zoo for children (Kerikeri, eels, chickens, bees and pigs), suite rooms for couple and art gallery for people who are interesting in arts. Along the way to Lochmara Lodge, you will see the beautiful scenery of Marlborough sounds.

A beautiful spot, and lovely place to visit. Wonderful to sit on the deck in the sun with a wine, friendly parrot to sit on our shoulders, steal the sugar sachets and entertain the kids. Exhilirating rope swing for the more daring bigger kids, exotic sculpture park to wander through as well as intersting animals and information to view. Have... More
