We booked Lochmara Lodge via Expedia for the next night and once we arrived in Picton and called the lodge in order to get further instruction where to park the car and taking the water taxi. That was when the woman at the other end of the line told us that it costs an additional NZ$ 55 per person (roundtrip)... More

I would like to thank Frank S for her feedback, unfortunately our 20 minute conversation did not result in a resolution acceptable to both parties Below is an outline of the information which is currently and was on the Expedia Website at the time of this guest booking. Lochmara does have its own water taxi service but does not specify... More

Stayed in the 100 dollar room. Basic room but cheap, clean and everything you needed. Fab location with stunning views across the sounds. Great walks from the lodge. Free kayaks as well. The cafe was the only place to eat and I was worried it might not be up to scratch but it was some of the best food I... More

Did a day trip. Water taxi ride was quick, even with a stop to observe a friendly seal. Spent 3-4 hours walking on Queen Charlotte track - fantastic views from the lookout. Enjoyed a wonerful share platter and fresh tap beer upon our return. A great day.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in March. The location is great, easy to get to by water taxi. The rooms are lovely and clean and we had a nice balcony overlooking the water to enjoy a wine at night. The cafe for dinner is a bit pricy but the food is really nice so we didn't... More

Lochmara can be visited for the day or to stay in one of the comfortable rooms for one or more nights. It is reached by a 20 minute boat ride from Picton. There are day trip excursions offered on the dockside in Picton harbour or one can use a water taxi, or take advantage of the hotel shuttle boat which... More

We walked the queen Charlotte sound track and this was our last night. The studio room was very basic and small. No seating, fridge, hairdryer, cupboard or washer - expensive for the price. Lounge is comfortable, staff were very friendly, dinner average, breakfast overpriced and our trampers lunch which they provided was inedible with very stale thick bread sandwich -... More

Lovely day at Lochmara. We enjoyed the freedom to walk around the property, visiting bird and gecko houses. Too bad the geckos were so shy! Loved the Punga People. Food and ice cream were great! Day visit only. My second time - would go again.

Lochmara is in a stunning location and on a beautiful day would be hard to beat for scenery. It has its own fast water taxi to and from Picton and the fare is supposed to cover the run of the property but we found there was an extra $8 each to visit the other attractions - probably irrelevant in our... We have been living in the Picton area for a year and a visit to Lochmara had been recommended by all our newly found friends since we got here so this day trip for lunch was long overdue. A fantastic weather forecast also helped to motivate us and booking the boat online was quick and easy. In fact, the 15... More

Five stars for comfort, facilities, fabulous kitchen, sheer beauty, super-friendly and helpful staff. AND - there are such fascinating sights all over the block. We had a rest day while walking the Track and enjoyed half-day exploring the wonderful carvings, installations and Lung People - not to mention the birds, the bees, the eels, the cooks and the wonderful muni...
