When the only way to get to and from your accommodation is by a long hike or boat, you know it's going to be remote and peaceful. That's the reason for this lodge, the blend in and live with nature. When arriving by boat, your luggage gets whisked away via buggy and you can stroll around the grounds on the... More

We only visited Lochmara for lunch while we were kayaking in the sounds, but it is an absolutely stunning spot, with friendly people and very very good food and coffee for weary kayakers. We loved it and will definitely be back to stay the next time we are down in the Queen Charlotte sound.

New Zealand has really beautiful nature, and Lochmara Lodge is a place were you can really get into it, while you still enjoy a high standard. We stayed three nights. Made a number of hikes and also some kayaking. We brought lunch to the viewpoints, and life is good. The Lochmara Lodge has the Best Kitchen we tried during our... More

So pleased we chose to stay here and had a rest day here. The staff were so welcoming from the moment we stepped onto the wharf. Our room had a fantastic view across the bay. So appreciated after the 7.5 hour walk to get there. We opted for a massage the next day with Marik. It was FANTASTIC. We can't... More

We recently stayed at a friends bach just 10 mins walk away and decided to pop in for a coffee and ice cream. Nice location and outlook with friendly wait staff. However, we were stunned to be asked by management to pay $8 per person just to walk through the property to get to the cafe! Even if we were... More

We were blown away by the clear level of commitment to improving the environment for people plants and animals. It was our last stop on the Queen Charlotte Track. Furneaux Lodge and Punga Cove are excellent. However Lochmara Lodge is the icing on the cake. Everything about the place reflects a care and concern. Looking after endangered species. The Punga... Lochmara is beautiful. If you go to Picton, the definitely get the boat over to this lodge. They have great food and the view from the deck is simply perfect. The kayaks are fun and the area very safe for a paddle. The walking paths are really well maintained and the native bush was full of native birds. This is... More

We stayed here for one night as part of our Queen Charlotte Track walk. We were met by their water taxi and transferred to the lodge. The skipper was on his mobile phone as we boarded the boat, there were no other passengers. We had experienced such great hospitality throughout NZ and thought it a bit strange that he chose... whether its the artworks secreted around nearly every corner, the gourmet restaurant, the peace, views, animals, kayaking, tramping, hammocks or hot chocolate in the room (as not everyone wants tea or coffee) we enjoyed our stay at lochmara immensely

We had 2 nights here as a rest stop after 3 days on the QCT and could not have picked a more relaxing place for a stop Beautiful view of the bay from our room, that became even more specacular at night with the reflected moonlight. The Lodge makes conservation a high priority and Ken was fascinating to talk to... More
