We came with a large group on a family holiday (over 20) in late July 2015. Great experience, great staff, great facilities, great food ... cannot speak highly enough. Went for the river trip, horse back riding, cave visit and generally enjoying the beautiful scenery. The on-site 'museum' is top class as is the anthropological history of the surrounding area... Having seen mountains and the great outdoors before, the wife wanting to go on a trip to the Blacktail Ranch did not elicit a great deal of enthusiasm from me. This quickly changed for me as we approached the ranch. The country side throughout that area is gorgeous! The ranch itself is smaller than others I saw on line, but... More

Another great stay at the Blacktail Ranch! What a special place… full of wild beauty and adventure. We regularly see bald eagles, deer, and marmots on the ranch... in fact-- bald eagles have been nesting and rearing young there for years. The ranch has a rich history including prehistoric artifacts found in the on-site cave. Bring a star chart because... More

It has been almost a month since I attended the "Into the Wilds of MT" women's weekend. I am still thinking about what a good time I had with eight other really fun ladies. I thoughly enjoyed our daily yoga sessions with Kim, horseback rides through beautiful country (on well mannered horses), delcious meals, and clean MT modern accomodations. The... More

I attended the Into the Wild Retreat at the Blacktail Ranch with three of my cousins. We had an absolutely wonderful time, starting each day with an hour of yoga and a wonderful breakfast followed by a horseback ride into the backcountry of Montana. The horses were gentle enough to make each ride a pleasure and Jake and Lisa were... More

This was the best vacation. I had no expectations when I arrived and I left with no complaints! The beauty of this ranch is spectacular! We were able to do a cattle drive and lots of horseback riding through various parts of the ranch and never the same place twice. There is just so much land to roam around. There... More

We could not have felt more welcome, more at home or more well cared for by the folks at the Blacktail Ranch. Jake and Lisa created a great adventure for our daily rides; the horses were lovely, the landscape sublime! Sandra and Tag are the most accomodating hosts. My mouth still waters thinking of the homemade and lovingly prepared meals... More

OMG. First time in more than 5 years we were able to coordinate schedules and be on vacation with our 25-30 year old daughters who love to ride. We have been to other ranches out west and although this is a bit off the beaten track it was well worth it. Others have commented on the good and plentiful food... More

Set against a backdrop of the continental divide in the Montana Rockies, the Blacktail Ranch is a place of comfort, contemplation and relaxation. The staff are all genuinely friendly and concerned with your well-being. With thousands of acres, the horseback riding trips are just magnificent. The Middle Fork of the Dearborn river flows directly through the ranch and offers a... More

The perfect size ranch, such a welcoming place and within hours you feel like you know everyone and it's one big family get together. Sandra and Tag open their life and lifestyle with guests and activities are done at a more relaxed "Montana Time" pace than being regimented at some other ranches. Easily accessible by air to Helena or Great... More
