Absolutely the best pastries with some fun and unique local fruits & organic options. I do miss the super yummy local fruit cobblers and pies. Apparently the new owners opted not to do them and stuck with pastries, cookies and breads. Definitely recommend the huckleberry beer bread! Most pastries are very large and easily split between two people and run... More

We made the bumpy, dirty, dusty, long trip to Polebridge Mercantile as per the advice of a family friend. He was right, they had AWESOME baked goods, those baked goods saved them from a total flop of a rating. Don't get me wrong, this place is kind of cool...but not cool enough in my book for the drive as described... More

I love to travel especially to places for from anywhere modern to have a true rustic experience. I discovered Polebridge around 2003 and loved it. You really have to want to go there because it is not on any main roads, nope. It's one way in and out. I like that and you'll like it if you take time to... More

Polebridge, Owner at Polebridge Mercantile and Cabins, responded to this review

Hi Don- Thanks for the comments. The Merc would like to take a quick moment to respond to your comments. You are correct: The Polebridge Mercantile has experienced some change in the past few seasons. There are new flower boxes, an enhanced playground, an interpretive nature trail tells the story of this special place, and completely renovated rental cabins. Regarding... More

Our fondest memories of visiting the States was Montana - and this place was a highlight! Tucked away in the wilderness, it's solitude and majesty were such a relaxing alternative to the big cities we visited. The drive to and from Polebridge from Whitefish was equally memorable, encountering bears and cubs along the way - quite an experience for a... More

I am so glad my husband had looked this place up. What a beautiful drive (gravel road most of the way). It is so remote you would think that a Mercantile ~ Bakery would never make it. Let me tell you, if I could, I would drive right there from Indiana for one of their Cherry Turnovers! Make sure you... More

A friend recommended that we make the trip up to Polebridge to visit the Mercantile, promising that the beauty of the area and huckleberry bear claws made it every bit worth the trek. We couldn't agree more! We camped by the river and headed to the Mercantile for coffee and bear claws in the morning. Let me tell you -... More

Out on the edge of nowhere you find Polebridge! The huckleberry bear claw is delicious, but expensive and all the calories and fat you will need in a week! Loved it! When your next stop will be after a long hike, the convenience store goods are a must and this is the only game in town...if there were a town,... More

We drove the scenic route to Polebridge today and happened upon this bakery. We stopped and purchased the huckleberry bear claw and the spinach/blue cheese pastry. Both were absolutely delicious! Both pastries were soft and moist and tasted of fresh ingredients. The huckleberries were fresh and the main flavor of the pastry (I often find I usually taste more bread... More

This is a tradition for us when we visit Glacier. We choose a hike in the area and get up early to make the trip from St. Mary's (about 72 miles). We tried the turkey-cranberry-cream cheese hot sandwich, a huckleberry bear claw, a sticky bun, and parmesan bread. We shared with friends and the bread was still moist 2 days... More

We stayed in Polebridge for a week and loved waking up every morning and walking to the merc for breakfast. Not only are the huckleberry bear claws excellent, the breakfast sandwiches are phenomenal! Don't let the remote location fool you, get there early for the best selection!
