Are the rooms modern with all the amenities? Probably not if you're used to urban hotels. However, this is cooke city! Go outside and enjoy nature! I hear breakfast is hit or miss but we got in around 10 pm. The kitchen was just closing and while we checked in, they were really helpful by letting us order quick. Best... More

Stayed one night on a trip to Yellowstone. I was happy to be there and have a room and not have a tent. The property is old. Yes the doors have gaps but they do lock. That said it is clean and the \managers do the best they can. \my room had a good bed clean linen and good towels.... More

Thank you for the kinds words. We do care about our place and work on it, constantly. Seems it's one step forward and two back at times, but yet we never give up. It's people like you that keep us going and still let us love our old lodge. We've been here for 18 years and if anyone had seen... More

After checking in and being assured we had the "best" room (and the most expensive), my husband and I realized we were directly over the bar and there was a lot of rowdy yelling going on. It was after midnight and the bar was supposed to be closed so we called the front desk to find out what the story... More

We sincerely apologize for any inhospitable treatment you may have encountered during your stay at our establishment. It is our goal to remedy any grievances, but were unable to confirm your stay with us. The front desk closes at 10:00 p.m. and then transfers to automated voice mail, so we are unaware of who you would have spoken to at... More

We have stayed 11 nights in this hotel and it is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The room is superb with unbelievable views. The food in the hotel restaurant is superb, but, above all, the staff made us so very welcome especially Nettie who was just fantastic with nothing being too much trouble. Loved every... More

The Soda Butte Lodge is not a motel / hotel like Holiday Inn or Best Western . No, if it were a person it would be one of those old, quirky and cantankerous character actors from the old westerns we used to watch as kids. A gimpy leg and an almost unintelligible western accent would round out the picture. That... More

Nothing like having the window open and getting fresh mountain air! The sound of Soda Butte Creek is to die for. Rooms are clean and welcoming. Food is great, try the prime rib! If you are lucky...you may even catch some great music on select weekends!

Just ate for the second time in 4 days here. Great service from a gentleman that worked one evening. Had a problem with undercooked burgers and it was handled very professionally so it wasn't a big deal at all. I made a pain in the butt request for a special salad and it was done perfectly! We ate there again... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cooke City is situated in the Beartooth Absaroka mountains. Accessible via Montana Hwy 212 Beartooth Scenic Highway, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy 296 and Yellowstone National Park. Soda Butte Lodge is located on Main Street in the center of town. Our 32 guest rooms are located on two floors of the motel. We are also, the only full service motel in Cooke City with 3-meal restaurant and sports bar full liquor. The large lobby is a great place to relax, by the fireplace or by the windows to "people watch", play cards, read or visit with friends. We are just 3 1/2 miles from the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the infamous Lamar Valley where "wolf watching" is very popular. The area is ideal for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling and many photo-ops. Winter in Cooke City is unlike no other. Extreme snowmobiling, snowboarding and cross country skiing at its' finest. Winter, the lodge, is only accessible through Yellowstone Park (Mammoth) or drive over Chief Joseph to Pilot Creek parking lot and snowmobile in the last 9 miles. Our area is rich in the things money can't buy: history, beauty, wildlife and hospitality. ... more   less
