First things first: the reviews that have said this place is, shall we say, an "older property" are right on the mark. The double room we had was on the small side; the door didn't provide an airtight sea (although it did close fully)l; and, the deadbolt didn't even lock. Others have complained about noise from the bar, but we... More

The good: less expensive then other places in the park or out of the park in this area such as Gardiner or mammoth. room was clean. Staff most friendly. The ok: noise, didn't bother me, but both traffic noise and noise from rooms around us kept my wife up most most of the night. Food, not much special here. Chicken... More

Was better than we expected & made me realize to look at more non chain hotels in the future. I saw some complaints of noise.issues but we had none, and we were there with bikes coming & going during the week of Sturgis. Chris helped me several times on the phone as well as at the front desk when we... More

Wednesday, July 16, 2014. The fourteenth day of our trip, all the way from Kitchener, ON CANADA. YEAH BABY! We pull into Cooke City at around 9:00 PM and it's still daylight - I announce to my wife and kids that we are staying at this out of the way little place called The Soda 'But' Lodge - they laugh.... Had the best experience at the Soda Butte on our vacation. They offer a full service restaurant that is a little pricey but the food is delicious and the portions wont send you out hungry. The guy at the desk had a big smile and great attitude and he greeted us at the door, checked us in, then he was... More

Are the rooms modern with all the amenities? Probably not if you're used to urban hotels. However, this is cooke city! Go outside and enjoy nature! I hear breakfast is hit or miss but we got in around 10 pm. The kitchen was just closing and while we checked in, they were really helpful by letting us order quick. Best... More

Thank you for the kinds words. We do care about our place and work on it, constantly. Seems it's one step forward and two back at times, but yet we never give up. It's people like you that keep us going and still let us love our old lodge. We've been here for 18 years and if anyone had seen... More

After checking in and being assured we had the "best" room (and the most expensive), my husband and I realized we were directly over the bar and there was a lot of rowdy yelling going on. It was after midnight and the bar was supposed to be closed so we called the front desk to find out what the story... More

We sincerely apologize for any inhospitable treatment you may have encountered during your stay at our establishment. It is our goal to remedy any grievances, but were unable to confirm your stay with us. The front desk closes at 10:00 p.m. and then transfers to automated voice mail, so we are unaware of who you would have spoken to at... More

We have stayed 11 nights in this hotel and it is by far the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The room is superb with unbelievable views. The food in the hotel restaurant is superb, but, above all, the staff made us so very welcome especially Nettie who was just fantastic with nothing being too much trouble. Loved every... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cooke City is situated in the Beartooth Absaroka mountains. Accessible via Montana Hwy 212 Beartooth Scenic Highway, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy 296 and Yellowstone National Park. Soda Butte Lodge is located on Main Street in the center of town. Our 32 guest rooms are located on two floors of the motel. We are also, the only full service motel in Cooke City with 3-meal restaurant and sports bar full liquor. The large lobby is a great place to relax, by the fireplace or by the windows to "people watch", play cards, read or visit with friends. We are just 3 1/2 miles from the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the infamous Lamar Valley where "wolf watching" is very popular. The area is ideal for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling and many photo-ops. Winter in Cooke City is unlike no other. Extreme snowmobiling, snowboarding and cross country skiing at its' finest. Winter, the lodge, is only accessible through Yellowstone Park (Mammoth) or drive over Chief Joseph to Pilot Creek parking lot and snowmobile in the last 9 miles. Our area is rich in the things money can't buy: history, beauty, wildlife and hospitality. ... more   less
