I had the wonderful opportunity to stay during the week and get to eat breakfast with the innkeeper Isobel. My stay was wonderful. The accommodations were excellent and easily comparable to high end hotels. I was warmly welcomed and Shakespeare's was over the top beautiful. I will definitely come to visit again. Thank you Isobel for sharing so much history... More

http://www.shakespearechateau.com We wanted to stay in a bed and breakfast to celebrate my husband's birthday and happened upon the Shakespeare Chateau in St. Joseph, Mo. The shear elegance and enormity of the residence was awe inspiring. As fans of Victorian, gothic and art deco architecture, we were blown away by the restorations that Isobel had overseen. Our Verona Suite was... More

This was the second time I've stayed at The Shakespeare Chateau, and I was not disappointed, nor do I think I could ever be. This palatial, elegant and historic Victorian home is also known as The Ogden Mansion. It is the architectural crown jewel of opulent turn-of-the-century homes at the top of a hill just north of downtown on Hall... More

Brought my girlfriend Shannon to the Chateau for her birthday surprise. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite. I was amazed as I walked through the front door. It was as if I stepped back in time. Isobell was there to greet us and give us a tour prior to showing us to our room. She has done a... More

60th wedding anniversaries are special, and deserve to be celebrated in style. Shakespeare Chateau was the perfect headquarters for our special weekend celebration! Family members travelled from as far away as Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Nebraska, Washington and Wisconsin for this momentous occasion. Four lucky families stayed in the suites, while the rest of us dropped in and made the... More

The Romeo and Juliet suite at the Chateau was absolutely stunning. The detail throughout every room in this bed and breakfast is simply amazing. The owner Isobel was extremely gracious and knowledgeable about the history and detail of the mansion and general St. Joseph area. The Fantastic breakfast served to us on the front porch was delicious. Such a peaceful... More

Service was excellent. Isobel, our delightful hostess, took plenty of time explaining the rich history of the Chateau and her loving restoration. The house is a gem: each room featuring a fireplace, elaborately carved wood, and period pieces. We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet Suite: roomy and immaculate, with a canopied bed, Jacuzzi, and a bay window view. We... More

The Shakespeare Chateau is a true American Treasure - there is not another house like this one anywhere, and I'm so proud to have the opportunity to greet visitors here. The stained glass windows - all 47 of them - are worth a visit to see, but this house has so much more to offer. Extraordinary woodwork, original cast plasterwork... More

Breakfast was excellent, bed was unusually comfortable, house was quiet and beautiful. Isobel takes pride in her home, and we learned a good deal of history about the house and St. Joseph from her. Driving in, my wife and I thought it was the prettiest mansion on the block, and the interior is even prettier. Quite an eye-opener to the... More

The history of St. Joseph is rich - in every sense of the word - and we have so many interesting firsts here: the first saltine cracker, the first ready-mixed baking mix, Stetson hats, Studebaker vehicles, STP oil treatment ... the list goes on and on. If you're planning a visit, take advantage of our 2-day special rates published on... More
