We stayed in room 12 last night at this wonderful streamline moderne beauty. The gals here are working hard to return this historic motor court to it's original beauty. The room was just like stepping back into the 1940's with many original furnishings. Room was very clean. Walked into the room and music from the time period was playing though... More

Don't let the outside appearance fool you like we almost did. This is a classic Route 66 motel and a must stay for anyone riding the "Mother Road". The Manager, Debby, was very well informed on the history of the "Boots" and was eager to tell us all about it. We stayed in #10 where Clark Gable slept after WWII.... More

Doing Route 66 we were told to stay at 'the Boots'. Looking at it from the road were thought 'no way', but we went and spoke to the owner, Deb, she showed us around and told us of this history of the place and it was one of the highlights of our trip. It's a brilliant motel, the rooms were... More

Stayed here on the first night of our Route 66 journey and the Boots kicked our trip off to a great start! Debbie was very welcoming and friendly! Our room was beautiful, clean and spacious. My husband isn't into the retro thing as I am, and he was very pleasantly surprised! The 1940's radio playing when we entered our room... More

Thank you so much for taking the time to review your stay and for letting us know that we helped make your trip a success. Getting a good review from someone traveling with children is deeply appreciated since we are not always sure how well children will take to the retro experience of no TV! Thank you also for the... If you are intending to do the whole Route 66 experience then this is a must stop place. Debbie Dee is just the right person to be in the hotel and an absolute fount of knowledge. The rooms are in the process of restoration and are being done sympathetically but not in the least bit uncomfortably. Don't be put off... More

The Boots doesn't look like much from the outside, still being renovated, but the inside is a different story entirely. I think the Boots was apartments after the Route 66 heyday so the rooms aren't just spacious, they're big, and immaculately clean. From the vintage furniture (in perfect condition and covered with hand crocheted doilies), chenille spread on the bed,... More

We were a little doubtful when we pulled in but our fears were soon relieved. My wife went to check us in and came back 20 minutes later with all the history of the motel and the city of Carthridge. We were more than pleased with the room and didn't miss having a Television at all. We took a walk... More

This was a wonderful place to stay. The rooms have been beautifully restored and are keep in excellent condition. We lived our stay and the wonderful conversation that we had with Debbie. She gave us a tour of the place and told us of it's history. She also told us of many of the attractions in the area. If you... More

We absolutely loved our visit and look forward to seeing more completed rooms. The motel was very quiet and the room was extremely clean. The manager was very gracious, especially since we arrived around 1am.

We had a nice visit while in Joplin this past May. We just happen to be there on the reopening of Boot's birthday. Deb was nice enough to show us around and give us a lot of history. While there we meet Ron “Tattoo 66 Man” Jones, who was also spending the night. How nice that rooms have been restored... More

Thank you for your comments! You are right - we are in the process of restoring two more rooms in the front building, built in the early 1940s. These rooms saw much more hard use than those in the back building, so their restoration is more complicated, but we plan to #5, and #6 (the "other" Clark Gable room, where... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Boots Motel is an iconic historic motel on Route 66, at the intersection of historic U.S. Route 66 and U.S. Route 71. It features two buildings built in 1939 and 1946 in the Streamlined Moderne style. Neglected for years, it is currently being restored to its 1940s appearance. Five rooms in the 1946 building are now completed and ready for occupancy. They feature spacious rooms with the original hardwood floors, ceramic tile bathrooms with shower stalls, and built-in vanity dressers. They are individually decorated and furnished with period furnishings such as chenille bedspreads and 1940s-style furniture, and some have the original round mirrors still installed over the dressing tables. There are no televisions because television was not available in the Carthage area until the mid-1950s, but, as originally advertised, there is "a radio in every room," and the motel does offer free WiFi. Each room is individually heated and air conditioned, just as advertised in the 1940s. Experience a time when room service delivered your ice to your room and your room key fit into an actual lock! We also have 5 carports to protect guests vehicles from weather. Welcome back to the 1940s at the Boots Court! ... more   less
