If you want old-school authentic Delta blues character, it's pretty hard to top this place. You can read the stories of this one-time segregated hospital cum musician haven elsewhere - I'll just tell you my story. Prices and booking are done via phone/email with Zee, the owner (daughter of the beloved Frank Ratliff who ran this place for decades). My... More

We stayed here three nights during a musical road trip from Memphis to New Orleans, and we had a wonderful stay. Of course I agree with all the reviews emphasising on this hotel's historical value and what a unique experience it is to stay here. I cannot really add anything there. But I would like to add that it is... More

This stop along the Mississippi Delta Blues trail is for the adventurous traveler & co. As such, it rather defies the standard rating system for a hotel stay. The beds are old -- they are intended to be -- and the open flame heating gas heating might actually freak out a traveler with traditional expectations. But our intrepid family of... More

By no means a Ritz Carleton. BUT if you are into blues, the area, and history, this is the place to stay. Zee is warm and friendly, hugging you and greeting you upon arrival. She told us she had been waiting for us. The building had been a hospital and there is much history regarding musicians who have stayed in... More

We stayed here for one night and it was a fabulous experience so much history! The people that have stayed here is unbelievable. We chose the Sam Cooke room! Zee had kept everything as it was from years ago and I love that she's done that. Zee herself is just wonderful and kind and full of hugs and southern hospitality,... More

I am so glad I stayed here. Zee gave me the best hug ever when I checked in. I stayed in the John Lee Hooker room, and it slept great. Everything was super clean and it's within walking distance of the Delta Blues Museum and, best of all, Red's juke joint. I'll be returning and will stay here again. I... More

We stayed here in the off season and this is such a neat place to stay at because it has so much history behind it. Started as an African American Hospital and converted into a boarding house where plenty of blues legends stayed as they played in town. This place is great if you enjoy staying in historical sights, every... More

I had a wonderful weekend in Clarksdale, the center of the Delta blues, and staying at the Riverside Hotel was the highlight. Every early blues musician you have ever heard of stayed or lived in these rooms. Before it was a hotel, the Riverside was a hospital, and the fact that Bessie Smith died in the room across the hall... More

I must admit that when I first pulled up outside the Riverside for our 2 night stay I thought what had we let ourselves in for, because this isn't a regular hotel in a regular hotel location - it's actually much much more than that as Ill explain. We were greeted by the fabulous Zee who gave us all a... More

This is THE place to go to for southern hospitality, tons of history and local insight into whats going on in Clarksdale. Zee is a brilliant host and spending time with her on the front porch sharing stories while she recants the rich musical history of her hometown was a real memory maker. Great place, great ambience (though the actual... More
