We stayed at Black Beach Inn by Grand Stay in silverbay MN on 9/24/23 in room 110. We paid more to be up graded to a King suite which included a Jacuzzi and fireplace. When the room above us would start using any water the sound would just echo throught our room and would get worse when they would fill the jacuzzi. It would be so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk and we had to turn our TV up to 50% volume just to barely be able to hear the show We were watching. They again used it early in the morning which woke my husband out of a dead sleep with his ear plugs in. The fireplace glass was dirty you couldn't hardly see the flames from gas fireplace. Both my husband and I brought these concerns to the front desk and we didn't even get as much as an apology for our inconvenience. The front desk attended seemed as though she didn't care and walked away when we told her.

Room Tip: Note that lake view is pretty hard to see at least from 1st floor.

Beautiful hotel along the Lake Superior shoreline. Rooms were spacious and clean. Pool area was large and hot tub was much appreciated after a day of hiking. Excellent breakfast! Rooms were quiet and the decor was welcoming, especially the quilts hanging on the wall in the lobby.

Place was clean, nice pool, front desk staff was great. Upon breakfast - around 9:30 AM the woman caring for and stocking breakfast seemed unhappy and acted in a demeaner like guests were in her way! My spouse was having trouble with understanding how to run the waffle machine and the woman snarled at her and said "just flip it over!" As I checked out with the front desk the breakfast woman who seemed rude came out from the back staff hallway by the desk and I asked her if we did anything wrong, in front of desk staff, she started to walk away. I suggested to the desk manager service work is hard, but we all have to be decent as we all have to work for or serve someone. I suspect this isn't the first time this employee has behaved poorly. Thanks, Howard Gorder

I’m surprised by the bad reviews. We were very happy with our experience. The price was a little on the high side and the pool had too much chlorine as noted by others. Pillows could have been better and the TVs are almost too quiet to hear. That’s what brings the rate down to a 4. We loved the pool and water slide. Breakfast was good and hot drinks were available all day. We didn’t use them but there were grills, picnic tables and fire pits outside. We had a huge suite for $290 with a king bed, bunk beds, couch, armchair, etc and a lake-view balcony with patio chairs. All in all, an excellent experience.

AVOID PLEASE. The front desk staff are singularly unhelpful and unfriendly and go out of their way to be so. Very high noise level in corridor. Cleanliness is ok but not great. Beds are not very comfortable. In your own best interest avoid this place.

I almost never write reviews. But if you are considering this hotel be aware: the toilet did not flush fully and the shower drain was very slow. The air conditioner blew air but did not cool to the temp set at. That’s usually no issue on the north shore, but it happened to be hot our weekend. The positives: very nice staff (you are in Silver Bay: ) and great scenery. I would only go back if it was our only option, and my expectations would be roof over my head and keeps the mosquitoes out.

Terrible experience! The pool area was so over chlorinated that everyone literally became sick. Tubs wouldn’t drain so stood in 2inches of water to shower. Manager on site lied about the issues then refused to speak with us. No one at corporate would help. Won’t stay here again!

For how much the room cost, you might expect some halfway decent amenities. But trying to sleep with pillows that were completely flat was not enjoyable. The “breakfast” was very mediocre with dry, cold eggs and mystery meat sausage (maybe it was meat?)

The whirlpool and fridge were dirty. Big bummer when you spend extra for the suite. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet. Lake view was kind of pitiful, but better than a parking lot view. Breakfast was decent, the waffles were good.

The service at the desk was fantastic, unfortunately the mattresses are terribly uncomfortable, and they put so much chlorine in the hot tub, that it caused our eyes to burn so badly we had to get out, as well as a group of other people who were staying at the hotel as well. If you’re staying multiple nights, no one comes and takes your trash out or make the beds which is inconvenient. But the staff is fantastic.
