It was a good stay for the Groupon price I got. I wouldn't pay any more. Extremely friendly people, but since it is an old building, don't expect everything to look crisp and sharp. We stayed in the Eva Peron room. It was extremely spacious and a very comfy bed. The bathroom was large, but there are no outlets in... More

This place is a lovely hidden gem. The building is beautiful and rustic. Very nice breakfast was offered 9-10:30am which is a little late for us for breakfast. I think 8-9:30am would be better. Very interesting art session offered in the package. Some parts so the baths could be updated.

We completely enjoyed our stay at Outing Lodge in July 2014. The Robert Frost room provided a peaceful stay, comfortable bed, good bathroom facility; did not use TV/DVD player. One owner generously offered a painting coaching session for guests, while I took a lovely walk in Pine Point Park. The buffet-style breakfast was delicious without the heavy carbohydrates some B... We stayed in the Picasso room, which would easily sleep, five. It is an old building, used to be the Washington County Poor Farm. It looks as though much of the old flooring, etc. has been kept, which I love. It is very comfortable, somewhat rustic which I like, certainly not the Hilton, and we did not want the Hilton. We... First thing to do is find out the history of this place. Minnesota ran facility that impacted many lives. Today you get to relax in a privately run B&B with antique "lots of wood" charm. Fireplaces everywhere you look - sun porches - patios - flower gardens - all connected to a park that has walking/biking paths for your enjoyment.... More

My husband and I came across the Outing Lodge through a Groupon and stayed here for our anniversary. We were so pleased with this facility! After reading the reviews, we knew that there would be some unfinished projects around the property and building. The harsh reviews were completely undeserved and clearly were written by people who were expecting a sterile,... More

We had our wedding reception at the Outing Lodge in 1995. It felt like stepping back in time in some ways because of the amazing rooms, facilities and grounds. The owners and staff were more than accommodating to our requests, and it was so fun and so unique and so memorable. Afterward, we received thank you cards from some of... More

We loved our stay here! The owners and staff were always going out of there way to be sure we had a great time! Everyone was so friendly! Beautiful location right by a bike trail! The rooms were comfortable and so quaint! Even my kids (12 and 10) can't wait to go back and I didn't think they'd like the... More

This historic and cozy facility was a wonderful get away for my wife and I. Spacious rooms with nice bathrooms. Very nice breakfast buffet in the morning. Huge fireplace in the lobby at night was warm and cozy. Built in the 1930s, it was incredible to see the old timbers and craftsmanship. The owners are slowly but surely updating aspects... More

My husband and I stayed here for one night and will never go back. It truly was an experience out of the twilight Zone. I see over and over the owners justify the poor condition of the place by repeatedly saying it's suppose to be rustic and more like a farm. I think they are missing everyone's point here. The... We would like to thank for the 15 minutes it took this 'contributor' - after more than 9 months after her stay ( according to what she says ) - to post a review against the owners and managers and the lodge itself. Even when the review is a little delayed, it is never late to fix an correct and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
19th Century History Preserved at the Outing Lodge European style 19th century country home, surrounded by lawns and gardens with 300 acres of wooded park land ~ a place where people would go to get away from modern city life. Pine Point was founded in 1858 as Minnesota's second "poor farm," a home for the chronically indigent or those temporarily down on their luck. Stillwater was a wealthy community in 1850, the territorial capital. In this abundant atmosphere, a desire to help the less fortunate culminated in the construction of this poor farm. The prize-winning dairy farm became both a home and a workplace to thousands of needy for almost 100 years. When the farm was closed in 1957, the land was planted in pine trees, now Pine Point Park. The house went on for 20 years as a Rest Home. In the 1980s, to save it from proposed demolition, Lee Gohlike began its renovation. He gutted its interiors with a reverence for its historic past: wide-planked wooden floors cut from old pine beams provide a perfect backdrop to the many elegant antique furnishings, numerous candelabra and massive fireplaces. Featured in Midwest Traveler, Star Tribune and other local & national publications, this beautiful Georgian home is a destination for exclusive retreats & events. Guests enjoy cross-country skiing, horseback and biking trails connecting to the Metro system. Theme dinner calendar of events. ... more   less
