I've visited Northfield a number of times over the past three years. The Magic Door is the best place to stay in the city. The B&B is very clean, warm, charming and comfortable. The Sunshine Room has a lovely gas burning stove fireplace, all day natural light, a large dressing closet, and a bathroom with an oversized, classic, whirlpool tub... More

I just figured out how to respond to reviews. (I'm a little slow) But thanks Kristen! I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate the kind words and the nice review. I feel I should mention, in case it may be confusing, that the "Sunshine room" you referred to is actually called Spring Thing. It is quite bright... More

Pam was very welcoming. When we arrived she had wine, cheese, crackers and other goodies awaiting our arrival. Our room was perfect right on the main floor. We spent a lot on the front porch - enjoyed refreshment and visiting with Pam. We got to spend three nights here. We were there for Jesse James Day's and had an outstanding... More

We loved our stay at the Magic Door. Pamela was accommodating and welcoming and our room (the Summer Suite) was spacious, private, beautifully decorated and super-comfortable. The plush-topped queen-sized bed was a delight, and the double whirlpool appreciated. There are lots and lots of extra thoughtful touches, too, like the unlimited Netflix access on the flat-screen t.v., the sherry decanter,... More

Pam has got the best place to stay with an amazing breakfast. Big comfy beds, with homemade cookies, and wine and cheese snacks, and did I mention how good the breakfast is? I was there over my birthday and Pam even got me a birthday cupcake! She even gave me a bag of snacks for my drive home. All of... More

Everything was great ~ the soft comfortable bed, the Jacuzzi bathtub, the wine and snacks that greeted us, the delicious breakfast. Pamela is sweet and friendly. Don't let the outside of the house fool you (it is a work in progress but still a nice-looking house). The inside is a dream. One of our best B&B experiences!

Pamela has truly mastered what it means to be a great hostess. We stayed here for New Years and it was one of the best ways to end and then begin a new year. All the extra little touches made it for a relaxing stay.

After being treated "very rudely" at another hotel in town, Pam was able to accommodate me at The Magic Door on a short notice. My daughter was spending the night at St. Olaf, so I was by myself in an unfamiliar town. When I walked in my room, I couldn't believe how cute and welcoming it was. It had a... More

My daughter and I stayed at the Magic Door to celebrate her birthday. We were very comfortable and the breakfasts were delicious. Best B and B food I have ever had! Pamela offered us wine, beer, snacks, fruit and cheese. I loved the little stocked refrigerator with beverages. I booked already to go back in Sept to visit my daughter... More

and you will be delighted! Pamela does it right. Beer, wine, cheese, fruit and cookies welcome you. Some of the things we appreciated were the very comfortable beds; comfortable furniture in the room as well as the common sitting area; games, puzzles, music and movies - and a wonderful breakfast. It's apparent Pamela takes pride in her business. She has... More

Just returned from a Carleton college visit where I stayed in the Summer room at The Magic Door. Upon my April afternoon arrival in the surprise snowstorm, Pamela, the proprietor offered us a cheese tray. We instead chose to explore our room. She demonstrated how to use the fireplace, jacuzzi, cable TV, and more. She also invited us to enjoy... More
