This B & B was just what we needed to conclude a 2700 mile road trip through five states and two Canadian provinces. The Magic Door is wonderfully decorated with historic pictures of Northfield, and the owner/hostess was terrific on the hospitality scale. Super breakfast, warm conversations, and beautiful cats (better love cats). Intimate and elegant!

Thank you so much for the kind words Charlie. It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife! But... to all of those with cat allergies.. please be advised that my cats are never allowed in any of the guest areas and receive introductions by request only. (when they are in the mood) More

A truly warm and congenial atmosphere with pleasant conversations. The breakfasts were exquisite; the room and bed were cozy and comfortable. Outstanding place to stay. I hope to stay there again this year.

My wife and I found this B&B through TripAdvisor when planning a college visit with our daughter who was checking out Carleton College. The reviews all sounded very good, so we came in with high expectations, and we generally stay at nice places when we travel as a family. Bottom line, our expectations were exceeded. Staying with Pamela at The... More

This is a real find especially for couples. Whether you are visiting the river towns of Minnesota or visiting your child at one of the two colleges in Northfield you will not be disappointed. The establishment is a beautiful victorian style, immaculately decorated, very clean, and comfortable. And the breakfasts are fantastic. There are only 3 rooms so book in... More

The Magic Door is a lovely 1899 home just south of downtown Northfield. My room's decor was a bit eclectic, but others (like the room downstairs), are handsomely appointed -- in keeping with the age of the house. A whirlpool might be an important feature for many, but I would rather the original deep claw foot soaking tub. Pamela was... More

I've visited Northfield a number of times over the past three years. The Magic Door is the best place to stay in the city. The B&B is very clean, warm, charming and comfortable. The Sunshine Room has a lovely gas burning stove fireplace, all day natural light, a large dressing closet, and a bathroom with an oversized, classic, whirlpool tub... More

I just figured out how to respond to reviews. (I'm a little slow) But thanks Kristen! I'm happy that you enjoyed your stay and I appreciate the kind words and the nice review. I feel I should mention, in case it may be confusing, that the "Sunshine room" you referred to is actually called Spring Thing. It is quite bright... More

Pam was very welcoming. When we arrived she had wine, cheese, crackers and other goodies awaiting our arrival. Our room was perfect right on the main floor. We spent a lot on the front porch - enjoyed refreshment and visiting with Pam. We got to spend three nights here. We were there for Jesse James Day's and had an outstanding... More

We loved our stay at the Magic Door. Pamela was accommodating and welcoming and our room (the Summer Suite) was spacious, private, beautifully decorated and super-comfortable. The plush-topped queen-sized bed was a delight, and the double whirlpool appreciated. There are lots and lots of extra thoughtful touches, too, like the unlimited Netflix access on the flat-screen t.v., the sherry decanter,... More

Pam has got the best place to stay with an amazing breakfast. Big comfy beds, with homemade cookies, and wine and cheese snacks, and did I mention how good the breakfast is? I was there over my birthday and Pam even got me a birthday cupcake! She even gave me a bag of snacks for my drive home. All of... More

Everything was great ~ the soft comfortable bed, the Jacuzzi bathtub, the wine and snacks that greeted us, the delicious breakfast. Pamela is sweet and friendly. Don't let the outside of the house fool you (it is a work in progress but still a nice-looking house). The inside is a dream. One of our best B&B experiences!
