No one seems to mention the stench of the Indian restaurant that permeates this property. The staff is lovely, but the rooms are tired (despite the quoted $1 million dollar recent renovation) and the shops on the first floor, other than the great little gift shop at the end, are poorly executed. The whole place is just odd. I realize... More

My wife & I stayed March 14 for the night, we had booked a evening snow shoeing trip through The Gear Resourse Outfitters next door. The Archer House is a historic hotel and with that you get what you pay for. We were lucky- were given the Bridal Suite (yippee) which had a very comfortable queen bed, flat screen TV,... More

The Archer House is an interesting study in contrasts. The lobby is an elegant period piece, but the signs designating the rooms look like cheap folk art. The furnishings in the rooms are high-end, but the heat and air conditioning comes from a noisy old unit mounted up on the wall. The beds are luxurious, but the light bulbs are... More

Business trip and this was very convenient and very accommodating - both the staff and the room. Great historical property! The only problem we had was the shade wouldn't stay down but the night person helped the first night and the maintenance man came and gave us a short term remedy for our second night. Everyone was helpful. Great bar... More

We stayed one night at The Archer House for a holiday family get together. The hotel is located in downtown Northfield on the river and very close to many restaurants, pubs and shopping. The hotel has been completely refurbished and our 2 room suite was lovely. The sitting area was large with a full-size pull out sofa, dresser, small table... More

We had a very nice river view suite with a huge bath tub. This is a very charming hotel. We will stay here again. Todd, the manager, was very accommodating. One small issue was the lack of a coffee maker in the suite, but there is a nice coffee shop in the building.

I stayed the end of September for a night as attending a funeral. I parked in the back lot, close to the covered entrance which was handy as it was raining. Check in was quick and efficient. I booked a large queen room, based on past reviews and was in the Schoolyard? room on the top floor. I thought the... More

I recently had a reservation to stay at this place and when I realized that my son would have to stay with us one night I called to cancel. I was able to cancel but the person taking the call was absolutely snobbish. He realized I was a "freshman" parent and then went on to say how much "fun" they... More

I am very sorry that the guest felt we were snobby, disrespectful or in any way unappreciative of our college parent guests. I understand the frustration felt when the guest wanted a room type and dates that are simply unavailable when at the last minute they needed to make a change. The unfortunate truth is that we have to say... More

Along with other relatives, we reserved a room (for the 2-night week-end minimum) at The Archer House as it was close to the reception we were attending at a nearby venue (The Grand Theater) and from the review thought it would be a pleasant experience for the out-of-state visitors to enjoy the local shops/activities during the stay. We found our... More

I am sorry if the guest room was not up to expectations and we will continue to review our processes and procedures to be sure our rooms and public spaces meet or exceed expectations. There are significant size differences between our rooms with the smallest rooms being our Cozy Rooms that primarily feature a queen sized bed (though 4 of... More

I recently spent one night here when I flew out to pick-up my daughter at a St. Olaf summer camp. It was a pleasant stay and very convenient for getting to either St. Olaf or Carleton - the latter is a short walk from the hotel lobby. It's an older hotel, but not as dated as some of the other...
