Stayed with my now fiancé in one of the tourist flats recently as a bit of comfort after getting engaged that day, only to find that the tourist flat we had was not up to scratch for what I had paid. The shower was only cold so had to use the shower block, despite it being one of the reasons... More

We had 2 nights here. Lovely spot with lots of space and trees. The owner Bill arranged us some horse rides which the kids loved. Beach on the day was sadly a bit rough to swim in. A nice stop if you're driving around the Cape. Facilities could do with a tidy up possibly but still a great place.

This is a fabulous family owned holiday park in one of the most beautiful corners of New Zealand. Sure it's not as glitzy as the Top 10 parks but its full of charm, sells its own takeaways each evening and is just a couple of minutes walk through fields to a fabulous beach. Bill, the manager is great, always smiling... More

This camping ground complex is 5kms from Te Araroa Township itself, just at the base of the hill on the right hand side before you start climbing. Its flat and has a variety of camping spots to chose from, amenities are basic but adequate. The beach is a short walk across a paddock. Bring in your supplies from the Four... More

A decent site that has everything you could want in a campsite. Perhaps not the most fancy, but there are enough facilities and everything is clean enough. It's good value and if you're driving round the Hicks Bay region you can't find much better for the price.

What a find, very peaceful position, large motel rooms, spotlessly clean. Small store with all basics. Lovely lady cooking fish & chips from a quirky caravan until 7pm at night. We were heading for a bigger town to stay and came across this little gem quite by accident. Worth a stay.

We hadn't booked so were hopeful a room would be available. We stayed in a studio motel room which was very comfortable, queen bed, nice lounge seating and wall mounted TV. Kitchen and bathroom looked as if recently updated, was clean. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. Very quiet location.

Not the nicest spot on our campervan adventure of the East Cape. The ground was mushy, so I thought we'd get stuck. The amenities need a lot of love. We had to stay here because it's the closest powered spot to get to the lighthouse on East Cape for the sunrise. (Allow time for 40 minute drive and then a... More

We flew from Australia, travelled from Wellington to the East Coast to visit a piece of property up that ways, we did not intend on staying but after a gruelling long trip both drivers were fatigued, we also had 2 teens and elderly parent on board. We called in on the off chance to grab a bed for the night... More

The innkeep at this holiday park was a little gruff and rough around the edges, but proved to be rather friendly and helpful. The facilities were a little run-down, but clean enough (there was only limited times that hot water was available). That being said, the location was spectacular. Massive, spacious, lush grassy areas to pitch a tent or park... More
