This was my first time to the North shore. We decided to make this our base. It was a good choice. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast was good. We could see the sunrise from our balcony overlooking the lake. The owners were very helpful. I will stay here again.

I have a wedding ceremony at this area. I booked one night at Cliff Dweller on Lake Superior through Booking.com. Cliff Dweller is not the cheapest option. But I chose it because on Booking.com it clearly states that Wi-Fi is available in all areas and is free of charge. As a business person, Wi-Fi always is a must-have for my... More

This was our first stay here and only stayed one night last week (weeknight), as it was a quick trip up the North Shore. The room was the most reasonably priced room we could find and we wanted to be between Grand Marais and Tofte. The room itself was clean, comfortable and the sound of the waves on the rocks... More

Had decided on another motel but switched to this one at the last minute, and very glad we did. A few dollars more than some on the inland side of highway 61, but this is the best price you're likely to find for a place on the lake side of the highway. Beautiful view, nice room, the lake literally a... More

I left a night early because there were so many bugs in our room I could not stand it. ICK! The shower had a hard time finding a consistent temperature. There was no air conditioning and it was rather humid and warm. They did have a fan in the room which was helpful. Even though the bed itself was comfortable,... More

Sitting on the balcony sipping a glass of wine or a cold beer, the view is breathtaking and the sound of the waves lapping at the shoreline is soothing. Rooms include a refrigerator and microwave plus a hot breakfast is served each morning in the common room that also has windows overlooking Lake Superior.

Value priced (for the area) family owned hotel right on the north shore of Lake Superior - views are spectacular, you feel like you are setting over the lake! All rooms have balconies or porches and refrigerators in the room. This is not a luxury hotel, there are no upscale soaps or fancy linens but it's clean, it's staffed by... More

Since my initial review in early 2013, I wanted to offer an update. I have stayed at Cliffdweller now in all seasons and weather. It is my "goto" place on the North Shore. The new owners still work hard to provide a great value right on the Big Water. I get a clean room, comfortable bed, sliding doors and deck... More

My sister and I have stayed at The Cliffdweller for 3 years in a row and have not one thing to complain about. The owners are so very nice, the rooms are very clean, comfortable and the breakfast is very good, especially the egg dish. The views from the 2nd level corner balcony are breathtaking. There is a cute little... More

On the plus side: Beautiful view. Nice deck. Ample breakfast. Friendly host. Clean. Inexpensive. Fridge and microwave in the room. On the negative: no wifi in the room...and spotty even in the lobby. Bandwidth issues. Tofte is about to get broadband, and cliffdweller plans to get it and has already purchased routers so that all rooms have wifi. They realize... More
