We vacation up north each summer and always spend one day at Itasca state park. We always eat lunch at the Douglas Lodge restaurant. The kids love the food. They always get malts and I always order the rhubarb strawberry pie. Service is quick and the view of the hummingbird feeders is very entertaining.

My experience was limited to the lodge's restaurant, which was pretty decent. The menu is pretty amazing, especially if you're one to try out local fare. It's expansive and diverse with harder-to-find offerings like walleye, elk burgers, bison burgers, etc along with standard Americana. I had the perch chips and walleye sandwich for lunch. The food was tasty, so no... More

My husband and I and our 8 and 10 year olds had a great weekend in the park. We stayed in the Itasca Suites - small but sufficient living room and kitchen area, roomy bed room with two queens, full bath and screen porch with table for four and room to put fishing gear. There is a TV in the... More

We did not stay at the hotel. We ate at the restaurant. It was excellent and offered a good view. The wild rice dish was excellent. Walleye was very good. Waitress was very friendly and took our picture for us

...and we didn't know what to expect. As it turned out, the lodge and it's dining room experience were both terrific. We booked online, and the park system reservation process was smooth and efficient. We reserved Room 9 (DSL9) in order to have an in-room bathroom, and the accommodation was actually two rooms (connected) with a bathroom in one of... More

Five of us had 2 adjoining rooms, each with 2 Queen beds and a small futon. The kitchenettes had a dishwasher, 2 burner stove, microwave, & toaster, but no oven. Cable TV and Internet access (not wifi) were good. There is also a second sink in the bedroom and a partially screened porch/entryway. Ample parking is available at the end... More

We stayed one night at the Douglas Lodge Itasca Suites (a four-season six-plex room) in August 2013, for $147.49 total. We did have trouble making our reservation online, but were able to make a reservation over the phone. There was a cute screened-in porch with a table. The living room had a couch and television, the kitchen had a microwave,... More

My wife and I ate at the lodge on our visit to the headwaters of the Mississippi. The food was extremely good. We found the food in Minnesota bland at almost everywhere else we ate but not here. My wife had the Minnesota wild rice and loved it. My chicken sandwich was also good. The fresh baked bread products were... More

We were sorry to have just one night in our 'fireplace' room at the Douglas Lodge. Right on Lake Atasca and only five miles from the Mississippi headwaters this is a real peaceful break. The room was lovely and we had a covered porch. Wood supplied for the fireplace and the fire pit outside. Only downside was the little bath... More

Staying at the Lodge is a good way to see all that Itasca State Park has to offer. We found all of the park clean and well kept. It may have been the heat or the fact that it was the end of the season, we found the Lodge staff were not going out of their way to be friendly,... More
