We rented two cabins for a family gathering and had a great time at the National Forest Lodge. The cabins were big and well stocked, plenty of firewood for the firepit and we loved having the canoes and paddle boat available. There is a nice swimming beach and trails at Flathorn Lake just 2-3 miles away.

You couldn't ask for a more idyllic setting. The cabin is awesome. The lake, too, was absolutely beautiful. Though a few things to be aware of: if you're using the layout drawing from their website to plan sleeping arrangements know that the basement room is all but unusable. It has two single beds (as seen in the drawing) but being... More

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience at our Superior Log Hideaway. I agree the lower level bedroom is noisy with the humidifier. Glad you turned it off and got some sleep. No argument about the road either. The remote private location means this forest road doesn't get much maintenance and the WIFI is weak. Not... More

Beyond excellent! We came with a large group and rented the Superior Hideaway and the Big Pines Lodge. Both exceeded our expectations immensely! Great for kids! We came with a 3 year old and a 1.5 year old and felt completely comfortable with them here. The loft was a huge highlight for them! Just keep an extra eye on the... More

Hey Micah. Sorry I didn't get to meet you and Kim. Sounds like your trip was busy. I hope you got some great footage in the can (is that what they say in the Biz?). Glad the accommodations worked for you all and thanks so much for the positive review. More

The intimate, single-track ski trails wind through tall pines and across frozen tamarack bogs. The host, Andy, is wonderfully friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious, and the other guests are often pretty amusing. Between skiing, snowshoeing, the sauna, the outdoor hot tub, the Polar Plunge, live music, and relaxing back in your own cabin, your weekend will be packed... More

"My bad" for this tardy response. Thanks so much for your positive feedback. We do pride ourselves on our ability to attract "amusing guests." Glad you enjoyed. -Andy More

This was an awesome weekend. Many brave souls did a Polar Plunge. Then warmed up in the sauna or hot tub. GREAT FOOD & great music! Andy and his crew are friendly and helpful. When one friend's car wouldn't start, Andy charged her battery for her. The trails were well-groomed. The snow was beautiful! The scenery is absolutely stunning. I... More

Been there 4 winters in a row. I never want to leave once I get there. Beautiful magical forests to ski and snowshoe in and with no snowmobiles allowed, the quiet is a welcome way to get grounded. The owner is a super guy, attentive to your needs, the cook makes some of the most satisfying tasty food to warm... More

I love this place! This was my second year at the NFL with our outdoor club and I signed up for next year before leaving. Fabulous groomed cross country and snowshoe trails in a winter wonderland of wilderness. The cabins are comfortable, clean and charming; there is a great hot tub and sauna plus a hole in the ice to... More

When it comes to Northern Minnesota cross-country ski getaways, NOTHING beats NFL. The trails, lodging, staff, amenities (Hot Tub, Sauna, Polar Plunge) and food are incredible. And let me take a moment to praise the food more. Head Chef, Auggie, is a culinary masterpiece that should work at a 5-star restaurant in Minneapolis. What he does with that kitchen is... More

Michael, Thanks for coming up again and your enthusiastic review. Augie's certainly a whiz in the kitchen, but don't want him to get too big of a head. Wouldn't want to lose him to one of those trendy Twin Cities restaurants. -Andy More

The National Forest Lodge area is the only place Minnesota has had any decent snow and our group took every advantage of it this past weekend! There were more 20 of us taking advantage of the many kilometers of great skiing, hiking and snowshoeing. So beautiful and so quiet, we could hear birds wings beating as they flew away. We... More

Thanks so much for giving us a try and better yet, enjoying and sharing. I agree that the Flathorn/Gegoka trails are the most beautiful in Minnesota, but then I may be a bit partial. Hope to see you again some winter (or anytime). -Andy More
