We really enjoyed our stay here. The bed was very comfortable, the complimentary wine when I arrived was a nice touch and Dave made us a delicious breakfast! We had a wonderful night downtown Excelsior, starting with a fun wine tasting at Wine Republic and ending with delicious dinner at Jake O'Connor's Irish Pub. There are other restaurants within 2... Glad you enjoyed both the inn and the town! I don't mention it enough, but Wine Republic is yet another great destination here in Excelsior, and just a block away! With Excelsior brewery and all the other great shops and restaurants, it definitely makes for a fun and unique get-away. We'll look forward to having you back! More

Stayed five nights in July and by the time we left we were frustrated! First off, we are early risers and like to be out before 7 am. Our first Saturday, breakfast wasn't ready until 9:45 am. That's fine if you don't have your day planned, but we did. We kept hearing that the food would be ready in 'just... More

When I first read this (posted 6 months after the fact) I had no recollection of any interactions like those described here, so I went to our system to refresh my memory. I expected to find a 5-night stay in our Cardinal room - the one with the kitchenette. I found nothing close to that anywhere this past summer or... More

Very nice room, and a very unique house! My first stay at a Bed and Breakfast and I enjoyed it very much! Within walking distance to all the downtown area of Excelsior! Very nice people to work with, easy check in and check out. I will stay there again!

Very nice people to host as well! The house is indeed unique with all the big windows, nice woodwork - and uneven floors... :) We look forward to having you back again! More

My partner and I stayed in the Bird House Inn in November of 2015 for one night. We stayed in the Blue Bird room, which is the least expensive option. It would have been very good to know in advance that the bathroom is not in the room. The bathroom is inbetween the Blue Bird and Turtledove rooms and faces... More

Glad you had a good time overall and could rate us as highly as you did given the unfortunate misunderstanding about the room. We have really tried everything we can think of to make the situation with the Bluebird room crystal clear. The online description is simply "This room has one queen bed, and private bath just outside the room... More

Stayed one night and really enjoyed our stay. Comfortable bed, perfect downtown location, beautiful space, and delicious breakfast. Quaint spot that we'll definitely recommend! And yes, we've added a bicycle - B&B trip to next year's to-do list.

Glad to hear you and your bike will be back - or you can use ours! I hope more folks will start using the awesome bike trails all throughout the Twin Cities to get here - pretty much right to our back parking lot! More

The old Victorian B and B was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. We were in town visiting some area events and visiting friends and checked the internet for places to stay in Excelsior. Unfortunately, we were immediately disappointed in the location of this Inn. We got the impression from the picture on the internet and the fact that it... More

How disappointing! I guess I'm happy to have managed at least three stars given the shock there must have been at finding no lake outside the front door, if that is what was expected. I think it's probably the first time that our location in the heart of the award-winning small town of Excelsior was seen as a negative. This... More

I reserved the entire inn for our wedding, which we held on the lovely patio. The breakfasts were fantastic, with Dave and Catherine taking superb care of us. All the guests commented on how wonderful the house was and the great service. The thing we all liked was the relaxed feeling of being at home. This was more than the... More

What a fun, sharp group you all were! Looking forward to an anniversary visit so we can chat a bit more at a breakfast. Smaller wedding are a real pleasure to host - especially when the bride and groom are as laid-back as you two! Congratulations! More

My husband and I stayed for two nights which meant that we got to enjoy two delicious breakfasts with melon and cucumbers from the garden. We were even able to cook some greens we had bought at the Farmer's market. The room was clean and comfortable. The location couldn't be better, close to the lake and the Arboretum. Just perfect.

Thanks for staying with us and for making breakfast such a pleasant time - nice to be able to talk shop with fellow gardeners! We're getting more and more growing on our 0.4 acres all the time. By next year we'll be sharing our own fresh raspberries, cherries, plums, tomatoes, cucumbers, peaches, cantaloupe and apples at least. And we're planting... More

If you were to look up the word charming in the dictionary, you would see a photo of the Birdhouse Inn. The innkeepers were friendly and helpful, and we felt right at home. The breakfast was delicious each morning. The fresh peaches they served were from their own trees! A bouquet of flowers picked from their garden was on the... More

Well I just looked up "sweet" and guess whose picture I found there! :) It was lovely having you here chatting up our business travelers and remaking old connections in the area. This was our first stay at a B&B so we didn't know what to expect. Busy Inn so make your reservations early (& often!) Wonderful location. Easy walk to downtown and the lake. Thanks for the nice review! We do have some construction going on this summer, but this should be the last of what has been a really busy couple of years around us. We've seen a new library go in on our block, a new schoolyard and parking lot behind, a new restaurant and grocery store kitty-corner from us, new condos... More
