We stayed at the GEL in mid-September, 2009, and it was a wonderful time. The front desk was on the ball, the rooms were very nice and clean both days. None of our out-of-town guests reported any problems either! Also, the event coordinator Barb did a great job planning our wedding. I would recommend the Grand Ely Lodge for any... more

We visited Ely, MN in August and loved staying at the Grand Ely Lodge. Most people come here to canoe the boundary waters or fish, we came to see bears. The hotel was very rustic and the decor of the rooms the same. It was situated on a lake with gorgeous views. Provided by the hotel were paddle boats, canoes,... more

My husband and I were married at the Grand Ely Lodge on Labor Day weekend of 2009. Let me tell you - there isn't a better place to get married in Minnesota if you are looking to have an "up-north" destination wedding. Here's why: The Location: The resort overlooks Lake Shagawa and the view is absolutely breathtaking! We were married... more

We enjoyed our visit. Friendly :Mn Nice " staff. Great room on water. Rate OK. Well run hotel. Been traveling for 42 years so take it from a veteran business traveler , this place is A-OK. Oh yeah, they put wild rice in everything... try the soup, it is thick and creamy. "You Bet-ya"and "Sounds Good" more

Ely, Minnesota is not a large town, and it is located in the Boundary Waters canoeing area. So if you are looking for the Red Door Spa experience, you should choose another vacation. However, if you like biking, boating, and generally spending all your time in nature, the Grand Ely Lodge is the place to do it. We took our... more

Stayed at the Grand Ely Lodge this summer (2008) and really enjoyed it. We had a room one floor above the lobby (not sure what number the floor was) and it had a great view of a large wilderness lake. The town of Ely is about a half mile's walk, doable in good weather, though we had (sadly) rain. The... more

My wife and I, along with our two teenage sons, stayed at the Grand Ely Lodge after a week of canoeing in the Bounday Waters. I expected this to be a over-used, worn out lodge. But it was very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room had a great view of the lake and the restaraunt... more

I stayed here for just one night in July. We were assigned a room on the third floor. What a spectacular sunset view. It was breathtaking. The furniture was northwoods style and looked relatively new. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was clean and well kept and came with high end soaps and shampoo. There was free wifi which... more

What a very nice hotel. We spent 3 nights in a Lakeview - Deluxe Queen room. The furnishings made you feel like you were in a northwoods cabin. Knotty Pine dresser, table and headboards. Even the window treatment header was a pine log to hide the curtain hooks. The beds were awesome. The room came with a refrigerator, microwave, wet... more

On my resent stay at the Grand Ely Lodge in Ely,MN I found that I was quite pleased. The first thing that greats you upon your arrival is the view. The hotel is located between two lakes, and is in a rural in location, although it is a short walk into Ely. My visit was in early January, and so... more
