We stayed one night on our way to Grand Marais from Chicago. Booked here based on great reviews and glad we did! It's perfectly located for strolling around the shops and cafes. We had an outstanding dinner at the Lake Avenue Cafe. We stayed in the corner King room. Very nice view, especially at night with twinkling stars and lights... More

We have been visiting Duluth for over 40 years and this is our favorite hotel. The other reviewers have already done a wonderful job highlighting the many unsurpassed amenities so I will let you read those. Check out rates from September through May for best rates but no matter when you go it is the best value in town.

Terrific location right down by the harbor. Walking distance to everything. Fascinating to watch big freighters pass by your window. Maybe 100 yards away. Wonderful rooms. Spacious and very well design. I liked the ones on the second floor -- big hot tub and facing the canal Reasonable prices. Good breakfast. The staff is very helpful. The office is open... More

When you walk in the door you know this place is different. No chain hotel feeling, almost like being welcomed into an extended families home for a visit. Stunning views..but the staff and owners have that very rare personal touch not experienced in a franchised operation. Kudo's to the owners, who stop in for coffee in the morning...for having the innate... More

This property was named "Property of the Year-Under 50 Rooms" by the Minnesota Lodging Association and it certainly deserves the distinction. The staff (especially Maria) was super attentive, the view incredible, everything was immaculate, and the combination of the amenities and the view surpassed my high expectations. The bed was very comfortable with your choice of firm or hard pillows... More

Staff friendly and helpful, nice breakfast of cereals, rolls, juice etc - COFFEE was GREAT! Balcony smaller side but plenty room for 2 to sit comfortably. Stayed over Memorial Day weekend. The hotel is great and the view of the bridge is worth the price. Within easy walking to the local area worth walking to. A nice, well taken care place where the staff and owners are great. In Duluth stay here for sure.

My wife and I lived in Duluth for 35 years and moved away in 2014. We returned to Duluth in early May 2015 for a wedding and booked a room at the South Pier Inn; right on the waterfront and right on the shipping canal. The accommodations we very nice, clean and welcoming. They offered a very nice continental breakfast... More

The South Pier Inn was a great stay. With a panoramic view of the lift bridge (even when we weren't in the "panorama suite" it's essentially a front-row seat to watch the ships go through the canal. Even if you're not a ship enthusiast, the boats are impressive. If you want them, the hotel also offers late night ship calls... More

I just had a great stay at the South Pier Inn in Duluth. The hotel was wonderful. It is situated right next to the canal and drawbridge. Walk across the bridge and you are in Canal Park with lots of restaurants and places to visit. Perfect location. The hotel itself was well done! Rooms were very nicely appointed with a... More
