Wanted to stay at a MN resort that had things to do. Many of our trips are to larger cities where we may go to zoos, children museums, historic landmarks, aquariums, amusement parks, etc. This time we tried a relaxing trip... and it was a great time. The staff/service was excellent at the front desk, maids, restaurants, boat rental, etc.... more

This was our second July 4th there with my brother and his family. We have young kids that just love it there. The tennis instuctor is great. The water activites are great. The meals are wonderful. The July 4th BBQ is the BEST! The fireworks are outstanding. The Adventure Cove for the kids is fun! So much to do! Perfect... more

We stayed at Madden's, in Strawberry Hill house, from July 26, to July 29, for a 50th Anniversary celebration with our extended family of 18. The house was really more than we expected, with plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone, and with a great deck with a beautiful view of the lake. It is centrally located, within a short... more

WILSON BAY UNITS: This is our third time to Maddens and as usual we will be returning again. The first time we stayed in the lodge. Although there are no complaints on the lodge rooms we find the Wilson Bay units meet our criteria for the “Up North/Cabin” feel. They are a little rustic, but very charming with the woodwork.... more

We stayed at Madden's for a family reunion and I must say the Reunion was a success but I was a bit disappointed with the Resort's accommodations. We stayed at Strawberry Hill house and this place truly needs an update. For the price, you expect luxurious beds and bedding but this place is stuck in the past. Carpet is worn... more

I stayed Maddens for a conference this July. This resort is just plain old and needs updating. The rooms we stayed in near Wilson Bay side were old and smelly. They even had a horrible small 19 inch TV where the cable would not work. The staff was nice overall based on what you get for seasonal college kids. This... more

Thank you for your comments in regards to our resort. Yes, it is true that Madden's is an older resort, we are registered with Historic Hotels of America. It is always our goal to keep our units updated, we have both older and brand new cabins/units on our property. I appreciate your detailed comments in regards to service and food....

I wrote a review from last year in which I said I thought our hotel room was over-crowded and over-priced. Well, this year we stayed in a large lakeside room that was awesome! It cost more, but it was worth it. The kids (15 and 12) loved the beach toys (trampoline, rocker and climber). My husband and I golfed. We... more

This was a great trip all around, except maybe for my waistline. My fiance and I decided to head up north for a weekend in June for a 3 night stay. We got a long weekend and planned it, the reservations crew was very helpful in helping us to get into the rooms that fit us the best. We ended... more

From booking the reservations and tee-times in advance to working out allergies with the head chef, a quality time at Maddens was right in our own backyard. Living in the Brainerd area, one does not stay local on big weekends such as Memorial Day, the Fourth of July and Labor Day. We usually would pack up the family and head... more

What a nice place to relax! Had a huge room with a loft, gas fireplace, two bathrooms. Great view of the sunrise on the lake. Staff was great - check-in and check-out - very fast. Grounds are beautifully manicured. The Pub was alot of fun! more
