We booked in advance to stay for two nights at this resort on Lake Michigan. Our king room was very dated. A big old, unused whirlpool tub that sat beside the bed was likely the reason why the wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling. There is only one sink to wash your hands and prepare your tea and coffee, the... More

This is a nice hotel that overall is good quality and a nice beach. Our only complaints were similar to others on here. The breakfast was just okay and in our case the cleaning service was pretty slow. Our room didn't get cleaned until 8:00 in the evening. But the staff is all friendly and the grounds are well kept.... More

Loved the place. Ok not a resort as some have pointed out but we liked it there. Comfortable, clean, accommodating and fun place. Would go back without a doubt. Room was comfortable and great beach. We I'd not use the indoor pool but looked nice.

If you are planning a family reunion or a big group vacation, this hotel gives you the accommodations perfect for meeting, socializing, playing games if the weather is not nice for the beach. The hotel is on the water so you can enjoy water sports as well. Rooms need a little updating and breakfast is passable. We were not able to... More

The only thing that this so called "resort" has going for it is that it has a small beach on Lake MI and is on M-22 (and probably is of value to families). Such a disappointment! The two people that manned the reception desk at time of arriving and departing were very nice. The breakfast offered was horrible! Stale and/or... More

This is the first time we stayed at Sugar Beach, but definitely not the last. The beach is absolutely gorgeous and well-kept, with plenty of lounge and beach chairs for guests. In the morning especially, the beach is quiet and relaxing and was just a great place to spend time with our son without having to leave the property. Another... More

Stayed for 2 nights on a Virgin Holidays Fly Drive with friends. Firstly if you are travelling with Virgin the documentation is likely to say you are stopping at the Grand Hotel Sugar Beach Resort. Don't make the mistake we did. Upon seeing the sign for Grand Hotel we pulled into the parking lot and wheeled our cases into reception... More

Pros: great beach. Cons: loud-doors slamming all through night. Poor customer service-after hearing my concern about the super-flimsy railing in our balcony, the night manager shrugged and gave that "I dunno what to tell ya" look. Only after asking was I offered a different room. Breakfast is passable. Desk clerk at check in was friendly enough, but seemed more concerned... More

I wanted to book a property right on the beach so we had a "home base" just steps away. We are 4 - 5 star type of travelers but knowing there isn't that sort of property in Traverse City, based on reviews, this hotel seemed to fit the bill. And it exceeded our expectations. The room was large, clean and... More

My wife stayed in the room while I played golf. We left the room at 1:30 pm and left the card out to have the room made up. Only one towel was left and that was on a wet wash cloth. No trash was emptied and the bed wasn't made. Got less than the response expected from the front desk.... More
