When we arrived and I first had interactions with the staff, I knew I wouldn't want to stay at this campground ever again. Staff were rude and intimidating. We were "title threatened" by the volunteer of the campground who used his position as a volunteer to intimidate and dominate campers: "I'm serious, I am the volunteer at this campground!" who... I stayed here for the first time in August 2012 with my husband and 2 kids. The sites were spacious with excellent privacy. They were certainly more private than many of the State campgrounds we've stayed at. (We were in Loop #1). The showers and bathrooms were super clean. The token idea for the showers was a first for me,... More

We have camped at Platte River Campground nearly every year for the past 10 years. We prefer the hike-in sites, which require a bit more effort, especially in reference to hiking your food in and out. These sites are very private and give you the feeling of backwoods camping with the luxuries of flush toilets, showers, and a camp sink.... More

We have stayed at the campground twice over the last year. We have stayed in Loop one at site 113, which is very close to the bathroom and showers, but still affords nice privacy. It also has two tent pads, so it has a little extra space and could easily fit two large tents. Seems like a good site if... More

While I am not an expert on campgrounds, I have seen enough of them to know that this one is a "must stay." I agree that the sites come in all various shapes and sizes and that only lends to the uniqueness of the campgrounds. Overall, everything was very neat and clean. It was great to have (fairly new) bathrooms... More

This campground had some of the biggest ((and weirdest) sites we have seen. Firepit/picnic table area is a bit far away from camping pads on some sites and a few sites you would have to look down te see them. Very close to Lake Michigan and the Platte river but not close to Sleeping Bear Dunes "main attractions". Great for... More

The Platte River Campground was nice. It had decent size sites with some trees seperating each one. You are close enough to see and hear your neighbors but we enjoyed our stay. It was $5 per night extra if you wanted electricity. Showers are pay but it was minimal. The river was nice but you do have to drive or... More

This is a lovely spot, and the walk in sites make it seem like you're all alone, even though other walk in sites are actually not that far away. Setting up for a week means a bit of slugging in to get the site set up, but it was well worth it. The sites are big, the tent pads are... More

Wonderful campground, with privacy, nice clean bathrooms and hot showers in a very convenient location for Sleeping Bear, Platte River and general up north fun! The shower tokens were extra but worth it. The ranger were kind but firm on their rules (which probably helps to make it so clean and nice). Overall a great experience and can't wait to... More

What a great experience camping here! The site were huge, plenty of privacy and beautifully kept up. The area is full of things to do and places to see, I can't wait to go back for a little more of an extended stay.
