My husband and I along with my teenage daughter, and my two dogs stayed in cabin 1 and had a wonderful time. We are not real big camping people. The cute little cabin was just the right amount of "roughing It" for us. We found the cabin to be cozy and clean. We were surprised to find that the motel... More

We recently returned from a stay at Balsams Resort in St. Ignace. We stayed in Cabin #6. We chose this cabin based upon the photos (what few there are) on the website + the amenities it had for the size of our little family. However, the pictures are NOT entirely accurate now. My guess is they're old photos from when... More

My family used to come to the Balsam's in the 1960's. We used to call it snow white and the 7 dwarf cottages, as they used to have these statues at the entrance. There were also small paddle boats that you could use at the pond. Many good memories, as this was one of our frequent summer destinations up north.... More

What a glorious place for a relaxing retreat. My husband and I and our daughter (23 yrs old) stayed in a true UP 'rustic' log cabin right next to the creek - a cozy, charming rustic cabin with a stone fireplace (and we used it at night, even in July!), kitchen, lovely new bathroom, and a porch with a view... When I think of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (having grown up in the Detroit area in the 60's and 70's) I picture strip motels, simple lodgings, and down home hospitality. On our visit to the Balsams Resort last summer, I found all of this and more, including a cozy beach with a walkout shore that allowed my five year... More

The Balsams has a sign out front that says "Est 1927" and I believe it. The grounds are filled with lovely older trees, especially evergreens. The cabins are older, and I have stayed in them, but I prefer one of the motel rooms, especially the ones with wood floors. This is a real place run by real people, not a... More

we had a great old fashioned time at the Balsams. WE played games and had campfires and really enjoyed the rustic feel of the place. It is so relaxing and Lake Michigan is so clean.

We booked a cabin at this resort for our family vacation based on how nice the place looked on their web site. My family was very excited about the idea of staying at a cabin for our vacation. Needless to say, when we got to the Balsam Resort we took one look at the cabin and left without staying. When... More

Found them on the internet, and stayed for 2 nights. First night in the hotel. All the hotel rooms face lake Superior, and gives you a good view. Walk 3 minutes to the private beach where you can build a fire with the wood provided. The cabins are back in the lot, and more than half are on a small... More
