Beautiful spot. Buildings should be torn down. Spent one night in room 6. Rolling floors and mold smells. Only stayed because we were getting a cabin the next day. Cabin 8. Cute, but very run down. We got used to the hunting camp feel and settled in. Spent a nice day chilling out. Was nice with no tv, we had... More

we stayed in the hotel at the Balsam's in August. It was a nice inexpensive alternative in St. Ignace. We used it as a base to explore part of the UP. The rooms were a nice size & well equipped. The owners were very nice & helpful. the beach was okay, but the beaches a few miles up the road... More

The Balsams was the perfect place for our family of 5 to stay while we explored the U.P., it looked unique and comfy on it's website and it was! Loved the private beach across the highway, and the cool trails to explore around the property. The first night we stayed in adjoining motel rooms that had all the amenities, i.e.... More

We really enjoyed our time here at The Balsams Resort. We rented cabin #8, the furthest back in the woods and right on the Moran Creek. They have several cabins and several motel rooms. Our cabin was clean and rustic, and nestled deep in the woods. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, and the rates are reasonable. One of... More

Stayed one night in a two bed motel room. I did not think to ask if the rooms were air-conditioned - they were not and this was a time where the temperatures were in the 90's. This is an old property, I would guess 1950's. They have done an excellent job of updating and decorating but the back half of... More

We stayed at Balsams for 2 nights during the first week of July. We got a motel room with 2 beds, a table, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc for a great price. Beds were comfy and there was enough space for the two of us and our two golden retrievers. The beach across the street was sandy and shallow and... More

Four of us took a motorcycle trip last night from lower Michigan across the Mackinac Bridge to scratch that off the bucket list of one of the girls on the trip! We had made reservations by phone about two weeks earlier with the Balsams Resort to stay at their motel. We knew we would be checking in late, and we... More

Stayed in Cabin 8 (1 br & futon in living room). Liked the price, flexibility (could book two nights, not tied to a whole week), staff responsiveness, and location. Cabin was old, but serviceable; loved being nestled in the cedars. Some utensils, but not exhaustive supply, in kitchen (could use a bottle opener and tongs). Had to ask staff for... More

Came here with my grandson after much research. We were looking for the log cabin in woods experience close to a sandy beach. At one time this was a family resort but after our experience I question that term. One of the cabins was rented to a group of loud, drunken, lewd college young people. That ruined the experience for... More

The staff is friendly. The location was great. The price was reasonable. Scenery was beautiful. The cabin seemed cute. But then we were in it and we saw a mouse. The cabin is buried in the forest so creatures happen. We tried dealing with it, but all you could hear throughout the night was the mice running about trying to... More
