After staying in small, unremarkable rooms in Paris, Mont St Michel, and Versailles, it was delightful to stay at a place that was beautiful, spacious, and unique. While it is out in the country, the directions they gave were excellent, making it easy to find. It is very close to the D-day beaches, and very quiet. The food was very... more

Beautifully converted farm buildings creating rooms with character. Staff helpful and friendly. The accommodation was spotlessly clean. Gastronomic menus. Although in a quiet location, it is well placed for visits to local places of interest, or just a stop over before crossing the Channel. Ideal for 'recharging the batteries'! more

Beautiful building with a central courtyard. We had a comfortable room with plenty of character. At dinner the restaurant was almost full - unusual on a Sunday night in France- and the food was very good. Breakfast next morning was also good. The female owner/manager was very friendly and helpful, the waiters a little less so. But all in all... more

Very unfriendly hotel. I had just booked a room a few hours before on the phone and they would not change our reservation even because of an emergency. Very unelegant staff and service. Whereas they still had room in one dining-room for us for dinner, they told us point-blank that they would seat us in the other dining-room because it... more

I would highly recommend this hotel to those who prefer to stay somewhere quiet and peaceful, particularly if the main aim of your visit to Normandy is to tour the key D-Day sites rather than sampling nightlife as it is quite isolated in the middle of the countryside. The hotel is charming and full of character. Our room and en... more

We liked this beautiful old farmhouse/Inn, and although it was in an isolated setting it was quite close to the Normandy tourist circuit. Staff were generally OK, but the person who checked us in did not even help carry one small bag to our room, even though we were struggling to carry our bags up to the second floor. Not... more

We stayed in a room with 'character', well, unusual would be the best description. It was in the older part of the building, on 2 levels, with a stone spiral staircase to the upper bedroom. Good comfortable main bed but little space around it. The door to the room involved much ducking to drop into the room (I'm 6ft 2)... more

We were lucky to get a family room on the French August bank holiday weekend. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful, and our family room was large and spacious with 2 bathrooms. It looked recently equipped with very smart bathrooms and comfy beds, and sofas. Food was very tasty with friendly service. The location is good for the... more

We booked as a package through Brittany Ferries for a three night stay. On arrival we were greeted with 'Ah, you are with Brittany Ferries, you have a small room booked!' However, the room was perfectly adequate on the second story. The bathroom was clean and the shower was powerful and had plentiful hot water. The continental breakfast included was... more

This is a beautiful place. The food is excellent. It is fair value. The rooms are large in the newer inn - the Manoir de Mathan - but we missed having a place to gather with our friends for a glass of wine. The six of us travelling together had dinner there on two of the four nights - and... more
