My husband and I wound up in a town far from where we thought we'd be to tour the châteaux of the Loire. I quickly referred to a guide I had brought and, since I speak French, called Le Cheval Blanc, since it had gotten good reviews and was not in a touristic town. I was quite pleased. The room... more

We have returned here year after year, enjoying meals in one of the best reasonably priced resraurants in France. However, the chef and his wife have retired, so now we have just an average establishment, nothing noteworthy. more

After our rave reviews in 2005 & 2006 we returned to Cheval Blanc in June 2008 in anticipation of another truly special dinner. Unfortunately the former owner/chef has retired and to our disappointment the meal was not up to the same standard as on our 2 previous occasions. There was no longer any Amuse Bouche to start with, the Magret... more

Blere is a good base for exploring the Loire if you don't want to stay in one of the main tourist towns - Amboise, Tours and Loches are within very easy striking distance by car and Blois isn't too far away. There is a lovely walk along the river Cher to Chenonceau if you want to have a car-free day.... more

We stayed here based on other recommendations for this hotel/restaurant. The rooms are adequate and good value. Dinner at the restaurant was exceptional. The food was excellent, couple this with a comprehensive wine list and good service and you have a winning combination. There is only a French menu (to be expected), however one of the waitresses spoke passable english... more

A party of four adults visited for two nights in early June, largely on the strength of Tripadvisor reports. The hotel delivers exactly what its website and the reports promised - decent, two star accomodation, combined with an excellent restaurant, one of the best we have experienced in France. As the restaurant was closed on our first night, we ate... more

This is a tough one, as the meal was either the best, or among the best, we've ever had in France. The room itself was merely adequate, though a fine value. The menu, the preparation and the service was excellent, and with plenty of wine and drinks, it still came to just about 75 euros/person. Some minor quibbles: the biggest... more

After a very strong recommendation from acquaintances who have stayed there several times, we (two couples) re-arranged our planned 2-day trip to the Loire Valley to be able to stay one night and have dinner at le Cheval Blanc. We were thrilled with everything about it. Enjoyed the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms (very reasonably priced), but the real... more

Friends recommended this hotel, otherwise might not have found it. Its an absolute gem, and well located for visiting Chateaux of the Loire. Rooms are nothing much to write home about, but adequate and clean, staff are delightful, but the food is just wonderful. We had opted for demi pension, and I advise anyone thinking of staying there to do... more

We stayed here following personal recommendation from friends and were not disappointed. We arrived in time for Sunday lunch and rated it one of the best ever, finishing with fabulous dessert. A sign of its excellence is the large number of local people and families at lunch. The hotel is typical of France, bedrooms are clean and entirely adequate, public... more
