When we drove into the hotel grounds, it was like going back in time. We could see where the horse drawn carriages would have gone, incredible. The rooms were like tiny terraced cottages. The food was the best we have ever had in France.

You are literally 'smacked in the face' with wholesome French small hotel character and quaintness, the moment you step in from the road. Enjoy the (small) inefficiencies and revel in the ambience of the hotel........... The rooms, in the courtyard, were fine, clean and quiet. The adjoining garden was beautiful to sit in and relax and enjoy the warm summer... More

Lovely little hotel, friendly staff, clean rooms, parking and excellent food and bar service, didn't need to book as it was off peak and they were so helpful, highly recommend. Nice bar area with fire places, just a shame the fires weren't lit as it wasn't cold enough or it would have been perfect!

Avranches is a reasonably large, historic town about half an hour from Mont St. Michel. We've stayed at the Hotel de la Croix d'Or three or four times when visiting Mont St. Michel, the first time 50 years ago during military service and it's still as comfortable and friendly a Normandy family hostelry as you'll ever find. Wonderful restaurant, friendly... More

This was a weekend break for us. The hotel has a fancy restaurant (see later comments) Hotel. Rooms clean and bathroom modern. Parking good. About E100/night. WiFi was good and overall a good experience. Restaurant - was very 'fancy' and a bit old-fashioned. Quite Formal service and heavy food - lots of cream and sauces. It was OK but I... More

First time we say this hotel from tripadvisor we just felt in love. Read some good & average reviews about it but anyway here's my review. Love the architecture definitely. It used to be an old post office carriage back in the 18th century with the lovely gardens with some roses & other flowers and plants. The room was big... More

After visiting Avranches a few days earlier during the day, we decided to go back for an evening meal. We were welcomed at la Croix d'Or restaurant in the hotel and asked very politely, if we had booked. We said we hadn't and was shown to a charming table overlooking the gardens. It was reasonably early and the restaurant wasn't... More

Needed a hotel inland from Cherbourg before heading south and this was a well rated Logis de France place. Usually by-pass Avranche, but thank goodness we didn't! The hotel is an old coaching inn with lots of atmosphere. We had a room in the beautiful secluded garden, still looking great in early September . The room was rather dark but... More

This was a third visit to enjoy the restaurant and second overnight stay. The hotel has basic rooms round a courtyard which is lovely considering the central location. A spacious room with large comfortable beds - in our case two singles pushed together to resemble a double. We will return again.

It's really pretty. Almost everyone else staying there were families and the elderly. It has old-fashioned rooms full of trinkets and a nice garden. The guy on the front desk is unfriendly but efficient. The food is amazing, I genuinely had trouble getting back to my room after eating so much. There isn't much to do in Avranches but it's...
